Hi all,

i am new to this forum and thanks everyone for your inputs.

just wondering, does " in line for interview" status mean that your background check is done? in my case, I did my biometrics on Aug 7th and have not heard back from USCIS as of today. some folks say their applications are in line for interview a couple of days after their bio appointment. but it has been 6 weeks for my case! i check the status every morning but it still says case received. should i be concerned about it? my case is not complex at all. i don't have any criminal records, not even a traffic ticket. the waiting is really frustrating to me.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

YES ! I did my biometrics on July 4th and still waiting for "Inline" Status. There are people still waiting pending (name check) who done there biometrics in Jan / Feb this year. Relax you are not alone, give them at least 90 days from Biometrics date.

You may not have reached the three year anniversary or the five year anniversary. When did you get your original greencard? If you apply before the three or five year anniversary whichever you are filing under, expect to be in line exactly one month before your anniversary date.

Golfer, what is your plan once you hit 90 days? I feel so bad for you. I remember when you did your prints 3 days after me.

Cheers! I'm not in a big rush let them do their thing. If they start taking the piss plan is to take these knob heads on a stag night in Federal Court. Hope we'll not get to that point. I opened official service request last week I suppose to get their response in the mail today. I'm sure it will be some generic rubbish. As long you are within processing times you are at their mercy. Chicago still reporting Feb 23 that is 7 to 8 months for average case from the time of filing.

I am from the same field office as yours. My case took 7 months after fingerprinting to get the status to In Line for Interview scheduling :) I also do not have any criminal record but I believe if your name matches with someone (usually happens with the common name) then your case takes a lot longer than expected.

Now I am waiting for the interview to be scheduled and I hope I do not have to wait forever again. Also, keep it in mind, LA field office is on backlog so the dates you are seeing on USCIS website for average processing times are definitely not correct. I could not even create the service request until after 7 months were passed and online processing time showed 5 months. Wish you all the best.

thank you for sharing your story. 7 months!!! man. that's a long time!!! i called USCIS customer service the other day and they just simply told me that my case is in in the normal processing time, but they were not able to tell why my case status is not "in line".... they said i could submit an inquiry if 5 months has passed since my application was filed.

it's kind weird because i see many other folks who also from LA area and filed their cases pretty much the same time as mine have got their letters for interview but im still waiting for my background check to be done. but i do have a common first name and last name, so i guess all i can do is waiting and waiting.

Good luck with your interviewing and everything, my friend.

this is true that they cannot create an inquiry until the average processing time for the case is over. Just to let you know that even after 5 months, I tried to create an inquiry and the system did not allow it if you select the reason "case beyond processing time". Then I called in the customer service and found out that 5 months is not true for LA and actual processing time is over 7 months (which is not showing on the website). I would say hang in there and you will be getting some updates soon. Good Luck.

FSI , and me waited almost 7 months to get inline for interview. There is no way you can do anything. Going to Info pass is useless, creating inquiry is useless. There is absolutely nothing you can do.

No one knows whats going on behind the close door. But one thing i know FBI primary take longer to clean certain origins. You might have done nothing wrong in your life but still its not your fault .

You will hear something soon, please be paitant .

Dont do anything for now, save your self time and stop worrying. Chill out and forget you ever applied for N400 and remember when you receive your interview letter:)

I completely agree with mohdirfan. Don't waste your time worrying about it and following up (I know it is hard but try to divert your mind to other useful things). I am pretty sure your turn will come soon.

I am one of those who can set my mind off N-400 and think of other things I can do. I am even one of a kind a person, I can bet, who is capable of withdrawing an N-400 application to protest against USCIS. To most of you this will sound silly, but to me it would be a way of taking control out of hands of USCIS.

Not that I am planning to do so, but I am a person capable of doing it. What are they going to accomplish if I don't ask them what they get a pleasure of not giving me? If not for my spouse, who travels a lot with her work and doesn't want me to get stuck at ICE every time we return from overseas, I probably wouldn't even send my N-400. Not because I don't care about US Citizenship or because I don't want to be a Citizen. In fact, BECAUSE I FEEL like a US CITIZEN, it's an abhorring thing to me to have some knob head bureacrat exersise so much of an arbitrary and unchecked power over me, and decide how long I must wait before they please to call me for an interview. And I have zero options to bring them to Court unless they keep my case on hold for over a year.

That's plain Orwellian, and it disgusts me soooooo much that unlike majority of N-400 applicants I didn't take advantage of 90 days rule, and did not send my app in until I hit the statutory time (even then I sent it mainly because of my spouse pressuring me to do so).

What many of you do not understand is that this is not about "wasting time", "worrying" (in my case at least it's not), as it is about deliberately being made to feel like a second rate subject at the whim of an arbitrary and totally out of control bureaucrat. As if you were some peasant in France of Louise XV.

If we could all get together, not like physically, but at least in media, in social blogosphere, if we could collectively generate very bad publicity for USCIS and bring some deserved public attention to how badly they do their jobs, then millions of immigrants after us wouldn't go through this.

==================================================

First Amendment and separation of Church from State has a lot more to it than most of our contemporaries realize.

The truth is, the Pilgrims were Puritan fascists who were only looking for their
own
religious freedom. They were too ... independent and fanatical even for the more mainstream zealots of English and European Reformations. They called themselves “Puritans” because they were dedicated to
purifying
the Church of England of Roman influences. They
hated
Rome and they
hated
heretics, and they
hated
sinners and they really hated
witches
. Their reigning English King, James I was also a foaming Protestant Scottish witch hunter, and was every bit as fanatical as the Pilgrims were, since they were all theological soul mates. But James I actually had to sophisticate himself a bit, particularly stifling his witch-hating fanaticism when he took power in England. He had to accommodate the more moderate and educated Protestantism that then still held great sway in his English Court and Parliament. This social moderation at home however, didn’t slow him from encouraging the exportation of sharp, Puritan zeal to his growing colonies in the New World though, where raw Puritanism would be free to dominate the new society he intended to found there.

I say with very little exaggeration, that living under Puritan rule in the New England American Colonies would be nearly as religiously oppressive as living under the Taliban in Afghanistan, or Wahhabi ruled Saudi Arabia. The principle difference between Sharia Law and Pilgrim Law would be that the Pilgrims let women show
puritan-whipping_thumb.jpg?w=244&h=244

their whole faces in public. the Puritans in particular on the other hand, weren’t all that put off by the Inquisition’s tactics or even goals in and of themselves. The Puritans and many other Reformers in truth just wanted the Inquisitional zeal applied unilaterally up and down the Church ranks from clergy to commoner. They just didn’t think you should be able to buy or politic your way out of being tortured into a confession of heresy. They figured that kings, Popes and bishops and priests were just as good candidates for heresy as anyone else—the more the merrier. Puritans in short, actually wanted
more
repression and
more
micromanaging of the Body of Christ. They wanted the power to institute the same sort of fanatical purification of Christendom that the Inquisition only
pretended
to enforce, and then only selectively, often for personal, social, or political reasons. The Puritans wanted their newly cleansed Protestant Inquistition to be
universally
applied to all Christians of whatever rank. The Puritans wanted
everyone
to be beaten into piety whatever his station in the Church or society– they just wanted to insure it was being done fairly and correctly by a dictatorial theocracy of their
own
design. We read about the Salem Witch trials, some decades after the Pilgrims landed, and think that hanging nineteen men and women as witches on the say-so of a couple of snotty little girls looking for attention was a fluke carried out by an isolated, small group of inbred fanatics. We think the old man they crushed under stones for refusing to submit to their trials was the result of some abnormal paranoia due to the bunker mentality of a pioneer colony in a harsh new land. When we read about the dozens of fellow colonists they just let rot in jail for months as they queued them up for their American Inquisition, we assume that this sort of fiendish treatment had to be the product of some sort of atypical mass mental illness brought about through a bad diet and not enough sunlight. But no,
that’s what Puritans did
.
