Secondary at POE LAX

Can anyone share their experience at LAX?

I'm just starting to look at flights and wondering if anyone managed to fly QF11 and make it on the connecting flight to JFK? I know you should allow extra time incase of delays getting processed etc but I'm curious to find out what others have done.

LAX was my POE. No secondary. I was processed in the normal visitor line. The process itself was about as fast as a normal VWP entry. However Immigration was extremely busy at that time of day. I had to run to get my connecting flight. I think I had about a 2 hour layover. How long is your layover?

If it's all one booking, then you should have no problem. Even if you miss the connecting flight the airline will rebook you.

I got confused, I thought all K1's went through "secondary" as part of the process on arrival at POE- I've done some more reading and discovered that's not the case and it's usually as per your experience.

QF 11 is the flight from SYD to JFK via LAX- so the ticket doesn't actually say the layover time but I think it's about 2 hours- the great thing about this flight is its basically considered one ticket so if first leg is delayed second leg is- so no chance of missing connecting flight due to airlines fault - only risk is any additional time at customs for processing K1.

If I did miss it do you think the airline would simply transfer my ticket to another flight or would I need to buy a new one?

Then you'll be 100% fine. It's totally the airline's problem if you don't have enough time, so they'll either hold the plane for you, or they will rebook you at no cost. Also it means you won't be the only one with that connection, and it means that hundreds of people make that same connection each week without a problem.
