My boyfriend is applying for his tourist visa so we can meet in person. I'm in the USA and he's in India. He told me the other day that he has 37 unpaid traffic tickets. My question is, will those traffic tickets hinder him from getting a tourist visa to the USA?

After we do the initial meeting, we plan to apply for the K1 visa. My next question is if he is able to get his tourist visa without paying the traffic tickets, will those tickets now affect the approval of the fiancé visa?

Any information you can provide me is much appreciated.

Thanks

First question surely has to be..why is he not paying his tickets, and why is he getting so many?

Secondly I can't remember if the ds160 asks any questions related to traffic offenses, why don't you start an application and see?

And thirdly even if it does, I don't see how they would ever be able to get access to India's traffic violation records.

If he is in jail for non payment that might cause a problem.

Why don't you go visit him there. By the time he gets a tourist visa, comes here, than goes back and you file could be up to 2 years. Im pretty sure that unless he has been in trouble with law, parking tickets wont matter. Im amazed he has so many, the police don't usually care too much about that there.

Noone knows for sure what information is reviewed at each of these embassies regarding visitor visas. But what his actions does demonstrate is that he has no respect for rules or guidelines. So how does this related to him obtaining a visitor visa, can he be trusted to respect the rules and guidelines surrounding the usage if a visitor visa if he is granted one.

Probably won't affect the B-2, probably won't affect the K-1.

I say probably because it depends on a few factors:

1. What sort of traffic violations are we talking about? Parking citations - Generally a non-issue. DUI - Generally an issue.

2. I don't know anything about Indian law. In the U.S., if you have 37 unpaid moving violations, a warrant can be issued for your arrest. If he has an arrest warrant, he won't be getting a visa. If the traffic tickets are just in collections, that's not an immigration issue.
