Hi,

My parents I-130 just got approved and I am preparing the documents for the NVC.

Do we need to send the original of birth certificate and marriage certificates to NVC?

My parents live in another country, does that means they will have to mail me those documents first and I will have to sends them NVC?

How do you make sure that the original don't get lost while sending them to NVC? How do NVC return them when they are done?

Thank you!

Found this thread while looking for this exact information.

Trying to get everything ready for my mother to get her visa and I am trying to digest this checklist from NVC. At this point I have lost track of what the official name of what I am applying for is. I believe I am completing the process for an IR-5 visa. I think the Affidavit of Support is I-864, but not 100% sure yet.

The NVC website helps, but even this this part of the process feels a bit disjointed.

So then in this case, I can send copies in and keep originals?

Any other help, sources, or references would be appreciated.

Yes I sent all copies, they don't have to certified unless they are translations

The confusion is because rules change

NVC used to require originals, but now copies are fine

But you have to present all originals at your embassy interview
