I-864 - Tax returns show no US income. Necessary to fill out Part 7 (Use of Assets)?

Hi,

I'm filling out form I-864 and am stumbling over Part 7 (Use of Assets to Supplement Income).

The form says "If your income, or the total income for you and your household, from Part 6., Items 19.a. - 19.c., exceeds the Federal Poverty Guidelines for your household size, you ARE NOT REQUIRED to complete this Part 7." Part 6, Items 19a-c are the Total Income amounts for the 3 most recent Tax Years.

My Total Income for the 3 recent years is near $0 for each, as I was living abroad and used the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. I moved back to the US in July for a new job with pay exceeding the Poverty Guidelines, and I have 3-4 paychecks and an employment letter that I will attach to the I-864 along with a cover letter.

Do I still need to fill out Part 7? My asset level is not high enough to really make a difference, and I'd rather avoid having to attach more extraneous documents. I assume not, and I can just put N/A, but want to confirm since the form is worded poorly (It assumes that income in the past is equal to current income).

You don't have to complete the assets section.
