Hey!

A general question regarding the 100 grocery stores we can find in CA, where do we get the most healthy food for the money?

Grocery outlet had some good deals but most of the food were of the processed kind.

Raileys(Bel air), Savemart, Target have been tested aswell but the $ added up fast haha. is Whole foods decent?

I still want to believe that it is possible to find resonable deals without spending $400 on food each month for 2 peeps.

Am i missing any stores?

Ah Trader Joe! only heard about them a couple of times, will def check that out.

We find Trader Joe's much cheaper than Whole Foods and interestingly, on a number of items (including some prepackaged stuff) also cheaper than Safeway.

However, food costs do tend to add up pretty quickly no matter where you buy...

I would champion local 'farmers markets' I imagine your locale should have a ton of stuff. and get from the smaller vendors and growers as sometimes the other places are still like warehouse purchased stuff that isn't really all that much fresher than a conventional supermarket.

Did not think about that! Yes there should be plenty of locally grown greens at least to get for a decent price.

Will look into that!

We save a LOT by going to the farmers market. Sizes vary more so you can get what you need and not waste food. You can try stuff, one vendor got us on smaller baby cucumbers which we go through easier and have much richer slightly sweeter flavor. Got fruits for some frozen fruit slushes. Alot of markets have spice vendors that are way cheaper than a store. Prices are very good we saved a lot more and got a lot more than hitting the local market. Obviously not as much protein avail at most farmers markets but I'm sure they are all different. Ethnic groceries can be good too, but need to know what you are doing more for savings and there still is a lot of processed stuff that could be had.

Asian groceries and asian veg and wonderous amounts of seafood. Latino meat markets....etc.

You could always grow some of your own food.

I plan on having a mini garden on the patio, but will hopefully have a garden when we buy a house later hehe

She lives in CA ...no water there ;) Just kidding....sort of. I grow my own chilis it is cool if you can just run out back to grab some veg umka36

IKR! if the neighbors saw us using water they would send the water police after us and they would hunt us down faster than.....something fast.

Depending on where you live, you might want to try places like Vallarta Supermarkets, Jons International Marketplace, 99 Ranch - they all have websites and weekly discounts that you can check out. It's going to be difficult to find a single store that is cheaper for all your needs, but you might be able to get good deals by going to 2 or more places.
