Adjusting to a new country takes a while. I have been here for 2.5 years, and heck - I am still adjusting! Took me about 3 weeks after sending the first application to get two job offers.

~~Moved to Moving to the US and Your New Life in America, from Effects of Major Family Changes on Immigration.~~

Mod Hat off

For me it took about a year to feel like I wasn't like I could do this. I did get a job about a month after I got my GC, so 7 months maybe.

I didn't feel like this was home at that point, but I didn't hate everything about it as much. It was more like 3 years for me to feel like this is home and actually not want to leave every second of my day.

My husband (then fiance) arrived at the end of January. EAD mid May. He's still looking for a job. We didn't think it would take this long and it's been pretty hard for him. He hasn't really wanted to make friends and is entirely focused on the job first. We feel like we can't catch a break! Just trying to stay positive and I encourage him as much as I can!

This will be interesting but Im sure this will vary wildly as even some English speakers had troubles adjusting to the various parts of regional America like the West coast, East, SW...etc. Particularly non native English speakers I think will have a slower roll at first as well.

It took me three months to start a new job. I had started the interview process for that job before I even left Sweden though. My American born wife on the other hand still does not have a job three years later despite a Masters degree. (She has an interview tomorrow though so with a bit of luck that might change.)

I feel like I adapted pretty fast. Once I started working I stopped feeling like I was just here on an extended vacation.

I think it depends on everyone situation as each one is different. It was easier for my wife as I have a twin brother married to a Filipina so she has someone in my family she can relate too. She also met a couple of Filipinas in Austin where we live that help her get her first job.

My wife has only been here 3 months but she seems to have adjusted fairly well, of course she still chat a lot on cam with her family back home but that is ok I told her she can chat anytime that she wants too with them
