Hello VJ,

I am new to this website and I am so happy to have found it. I need to translate my fiance's divorce papers. Could I use my French teacher, who is a native speaker? I have been having some trouble finding someone in the Baltimore area to translate. Thanks.

It needs to be an official certified translation.

See step 13 here.

It only has to be someone that is competent to do so. Not a certified translator.

13. Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I typed name , certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled .

Signature

Date Typed Name

Address

So yes shayrene, just have him/her complete the above.

flipside,

No it does not. It needs to be accurate, and certified as such by the person who did the translation.

Read your own reference more carefully.

Yadrak is correct it does not need to be official, and also you will be ask by the consular to swear to that all the documentations are correct and truthful to the best of your knowledge .

i nearly made the mistake of paying £82.50 per translation to a notary who is sending my papers off to somewhere else , which would have taken another month of waiting, when it was not necessary.
