RFE missing record

We filed an I-751 in February to remove the PR conditional status. At the end of June, we received an RFE with a deadline of Sept 17th. We gathered the requested documents and sent them mid-August. We know the documents were delivered (from USPS tracking) but we did not get a receipt from USCIS. We went on the USCIS website to check the status but when we enter the receipt number that is on the RFE, the site says the number is invalid.

We called the 800 number and they said they could not find a record for that number either and did not even see any indication that an RFE was even requested at all! They said they would put in an inquiry with the California Service Center and that we would receive a response from them within 3 weeks. We also emailed the CSC directly to inquire about this issue. It has now been over 3 weeks and we have not received a response to either inquiry. We're also now past the RFE deadline, so we're worried that the USCIS will consider we did not provide the evidence in time (though we did) and deny our case.

Anybody encountered this situation? Any tips on what else we can do?

Maybe you're using the wrong case number on the USCIS website?

I know on my Biometrics letter, there are 2 case numbers on it. Only 1 works on the case status checker on USCIS website. Assuming you still have the biometrics letter, check it...

I do have older documents with a different number and it does work but it refers to previous steps and has no relevant information about the current situation and no reference to an RFE.
