Hello, I am married to US citizen. Same sex marriage. I already have greencard. When I got married, I used my husband's last name. So, in my marriage licence and in my greencard, I use my first name and my husband's last name. The name is different with my passport from my country origin.

My questions

1. Do I need to change my country origin passport name as the name shown in my greencard, social security card, and marriage licence? What should I do?

2. In my country origin, same sex marriage is not legal. And our marriage status is not legal in my country. So, if I want to go visit my family back home,

will it be problem with the US Imigration when I re-enter the US? Because my name is different between my Greencard and my origin passport. I use my huband's last name, yet in my passport I use my real name (name before I got married)

I have no plan to change my citizenship.

Please help. Thank you

Hi there,

I am not quite sure if your country will let you change your name for your Indonesian passport. I would contact them and ask if that's possible. My assumption is it shouldn't be an issue to change your name since you are legally married.

I would also not worry about the name on your green card being different from that on your passport when you re-enter the US. Take a copy of your marriage certificate with you to be sure. If they have questions at the border, you can explain your situation, show them what you have and they should be fine.

Indonesia does not recognize gay marriage. I really doubt the Indonesian consulate/embassy would make the name change in this case.

But yes, I agree with your 2nd paragraph.

OP-

1. No, there is no requirement for you to change your passport to match your name on your green card.

2. I would follow tjhfx's advice.
