What is wrong with immigration offices?

After spending a summer trying to get together again with my fiance for the 6th time (which is another unbelievable immigration story), I have decided to visit my fiance in Pakistan. We have been trying to get married the past year, but there is always a complication, paper, or something else screwing up. I applied for the visa almost 5 weeks ago to the Pakistani DC office. Why is it taking so long when I read that you can drive there and get it in one day? I think that is what I should have done. I have plans to leave 1 week from today, but did not make plane reservations after getting screwed out of cost of a flight this summer. Being a teacher, it's not like I can just take off any old week to leave. OMG, I am so over immigration. People are walking into countries with no id's, yet we are sitting here busting our butts legally. We have known each other almost 5 years, yet it is a living hell trying to get together, and that's not even in the USA. With God's grace, we will finally get married in Pakistan sometime in the next month, but I have learned to expect nothing because that is basically what we get. It's too painful to have any expectations where immigration is concerned. Thanks for listening....

We all understand your frustration. Legally doing the process is heartbreaking when you see illegals getting free attorneys and driving licences.

When we were making the application, the judge wanted 100 dh "under the table" (about $20) Adil said NO and told me after we left the office. Cost me $550 to extend my plane ticket so paying the 100 dh would have been cheaper. He made us change the translation of my IRS transcript as it said single taxpayer and he said i could not be single as i was a widow. After which we ran into every obsticle immigration could throw at anyone.

Obviously knew nothing of IRS filing statuses.....

Teacher, I'm sorry for your situation. Hopefully you are allowed to enter to marry. It's sounds like you two have had a rough journey so far, and this bump could really frustrate your future plans. I read on another thread (not sure if I would rely on it) that some people had applied for their Pak visa at the DC or NY office, were denied, then were approved when they applied at the Houston office. It's not you, it's the immigration offices!

Visa is processed at Embassy\Consulate corresponding to the State applicant resides in. Delaware or Pennsylvania residents just can't apply at Houston.

I can understand how frustrating this is for you. I visited Pakistan last year Alhamdulilah but have been denied two visas (from Houston) since then. I emailed a woman there, Sarah Garner, several times regarding my visa application and I was never given a clear response for the denial.

You can try emailing the DC office to check on the status. I would suggest not to email too many times because this gets on their nerves and makes them unwilling to help.

I hope it all works out for you though and you can make it there to Pakistan! Best of luck

I didn't think that info was quite accurate...

Because why would the Pakistan embassies have states assigned to them if someone could apply for a visa at a different office? Didn't quite make sense, but hey, I could see someone trying if they had the opportunity.

Because many embassies (incl Pakistani) do have states assigned to them. You may want to research..

I don't need to research anything. You are completely misreading my first comment and are saying the same thing I am saying.

Oh yeah, I went back to your original statement, I misread. Seemed as if we were disagreeing on something we agree on.

The Papal visit has my attention today.

Lol!!! No problem - sorry if my wording was too harsh.

When I was coming to work this morning, I was thinking about how my guy and I want to take a cruise in Mexico maybe next year and the he will only need his green card to visit Mexico. I thought of this thread and how it seems that diplomatically, America comes in and says, "Our people can come here, but your people can only come here under certain circumstances!" Then I thought, "Pakistan disagrees..."

I'm still waiting...will be 6 weeks on Wednesday. I only have those 3 weeks vacation since I teach...can't change any dates again. I never thought it would take this long to just get a simple visa. If I can't get it, I suppose we will file a K-1, but I'm worried that it will be rejected and we will have to find a way to get married. We have spent more than a year trying to find a place/time to get married and have every single paper that is required. Also, I am retiring in one more year, so we are both older, and I feel like we have a limited number of years to be together compared to the mostly-younger folks on here.
