I am US citizen and got it through naturalization. I will use my certificate to proof my citizenship, but I do not have US passport yet.

Do I need the passport to file I-129F?

3/16/07 - I-129F received

3/21/07 - NOA1 by mail, check cashed

One of the requirements you need to have for a 129-f is meeting your fiance' in the last 2 years. If you don't have a passport for international travel, did she come to meet you or met her when she was in the USA on a visitor visa or something similar?

4/28/2010 - Daughter became "Naturalized Citizen" since I adopted her

4/9/2012 - Filed N-400 for wife

8/23/2012 - Interview Appt!

I ofcourse do not know for certain but...

I believe your certificate should be just fine, it shows you are a citizen, and I would send in a copy of your home country passport to show who you are and proof of travel to see your fiance, etc etc.

Should be sufficent...but, ofcourse, I don't know 100%

I sent a copy of my BC and my passport.

The USC just needs to prove (with the I-129F petition) that s/he is a citizen.

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil

Double check but I am pretty sure a copy of every page of your U.S. passport is an alternative to your naturalization certificate to prove U.S. citizenship. This is all spelled out in the instructions (first 5 pages or so) of the I-129F petition form.

He doesnt have a US passport yet...thats why he's asking.

Check the instructions on the I-129F.

You do not need a US passport. Just provide a copy (front *and* back) of your Naturalzation certificate.

That is exactly what I plan to do. I will get my naturalization certifcation only next month.

And all my past travels to meet her are on my home country passport. I also plan to

write a small letter explaining this along with the travel documents. My personal

opinion is that this is not a problem at all.
