And perhaps they wish to see whom to destroy before refocusing on whom they support.

It only works like that in countries where the elections are rigged... The us media is not that corrupt or transparent.

Trump is a media figure, he generates big headlines because he says outrageous things and he's been around long enough to know exactly that. He is not a victim of unfair media treatment, he courts it.

Anyone who wants to know who to vote for shouldn't be making that decision from news headlines....

Because the news media isn't an outgrowth of political parties. It has its own agenda.

Well yeah, I agree. I was trying to help dispel the myth of a liberal media. We have if anything a media with a very pro corporate agenda.

There certainly is a perception that the mainstream media is a mouthpiece of political parties. While there certainly are biases, the media has its own agenda. Generally speaking the issue isn't so much about bias but with the quality of reporting.

With very few exceptions, the news commentary shows are pretty terrible. They certainly say something uncomplimentary about the intended audience.

This might be an outgrowth of the old principle "if it bleeds, it leads" (the most sensational news story gets top billing on the newscast or is the primary headline).

Well yeah, but seeing as thousands of people regularly turn up to Bernie Sanders rallies, a lot more than go to Trump rallies, without very much main stream media attention not tell us that something is terribly wrong with the media? Clearly lots of people are interested in what Bernie Sanders is saying, yet the media doesn't seem interested in reporting on it? Like I said above, the US media seems to think all Americans are stupid, and don't care about politics. Perhaps people really tired of the crappy bland Establishment candidates, and news reporters who just want to talk about superficial nonsense?

Trump is a natural born leader and people want to see what he says…whether they like him or not.

if by natural born leader you meant naturally born into money, agreed.

Trump has charisma. Sanders not so much. Like listening to paint dry.

and we all know what presidential candidates must provide, first and foremost - entertainment!

Why do more people turn out to Bernie Sanders rallies, without very much media attention? If not Charisma, how about substance? Or perhaps he just doesn't insult peoples intelligence, in quite the same way as the the Donald?

The simple answer is because the presidential nomination and election process are a two year soap opera with voters doing little more than choosing and shilling for their favourite character.

Trump just happens to be the most flamboyant.

Liberal media is redundant. Facts and reality tend to have a natural liberal bias.

reality-has-a-liberal-bias-86962418392.j

Seriously, we get round the clock coverage of Trump, yet Bernie Sanders, who by the way attracts much larger crowds than the Donald, yet the supposedly liberal media but ignores him.
Why? Personally I agree with the suggestion that it's because the Donald is a safer candidate to report on, and media executives don't think Americans are smart enough to discuss anything other than the Donalds hair.

Thoughts?

The problems with corporate media in the US have little to do with reporting bias and more to do with which stories are chosen and why. It's less about informing people than it is about entertainment.

Unfortunately, the underground media isn't much better - any hack can start up a blog, website or youtube vlog. Hence birtherism is still a thing as well as conspiracy theories about 9/11 and Benghazi.
