I decided to call the NVC myself to find out why my husbands case is taking so long. And I find out that his case is in the "Termination process".

How did I let myself leave my husbands case in the hands of a lawyer??

Gladly that man I was on the phone with at NVC re-opened my husbands case. He went on to tell me that he emailed the lawyers office last year in August, but had never received a reply.

So, now, within a week he will send me an email of a list of documents thay need to my email account.... and also the email will be sent to our laywer office....

Not to mention, "the lawyer office" (-_-), or "one of the ladies who took our case"; she NEVER gave me detailed information on my husbands case status. I checked up with her every month and/or two about our case status. And all she every told me was either "wait", "until the consulate sends an email on when the interview date is then ill emailed you", and other simple non-detailed information. She never metioned our case was in the Process of Termination or that our case is not even complete or even about to be terminated. And that we will even have to pay the fees all over again.

I dont even know how I am going to speak to the lady at the laywers office.... How do I even began to start the phone conversation?? How? I am so annoyed and shocked.

Someone in the VisaJourney website help us. Please

good thing you contacted them!! just wait for them to send you the list of what they need. i am not what the process is now. when i did the nvc process everything was by email, not sure if it still the same. however, i never had any issues with the reps at nvc helping me out always really nice. just get together the list of what they ask for. usually just civil documents, birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc. just have them ready. post any questions you will have. have your last couple years of taxes together also.

Same thing happened to me except I didn't wait a year to call the NVC, just a few months, but turns out my lawyer hadn't even completed my online DS-260. She had told me she had one of her paralegals do it and we were just "waiting to hear back from the nvc". After I found out they had wasted months, OF COURSE I WAS PISSED, I let them know they screwed up and how that would affect me, but I made sure to remain cordial, after all I will still need them to get me ready for the intwerview.

I ended up submitting the DS-260 myself with the assitance of one of the paralegals from her firm, I didn't trust them to do it all for me anymore even though we had already paid their fees. I waited a couple months and still didn't hear anything from the NVC, so I called again, turns out they hadn't received my civil documents yet, and they couldn't begin to process my case without them. We were told we would get a list of the documents we would need to send but we never actually got that email, so I had asked my lawyer to send everything she had to the NVC anyway. She did send everything by email but about a month later I called the NVC again to see how everything was going, and turns out they didn't get them. Either they didn't get the email or they just couldn't find it. I ended up sending everything again by certified mail to make sure they got it. They approved my case a couple weeks later and about 6-7 weeks after that they scheduled my interview in Ciudad Juarez.

My advise to you is, when in doubt call the NVC, and send everything by certified mail to make sure it doesn't get lost. Email does seem a lot easier and it might work for some people, but it didn't for me and it could happen to anyone. At leat sending it by certified mail you get a notice when they finally receive it and sign for it. Turns out processing was faster that way too. It is the lawyers job to make sure your case is handled correctly, but after all, you're the most interested party in making sure everything goes as fast and smoothly as possible, even if you did trust your lawyer, I'd recomend you to read other people's timelines to see if you're still within the normal waiting time, and if you're not, always call NVC, I know their lines are always busy and you have to wait on hold for a while, but at the end it's worth it.

But, thank you guys for your advice and stories; they help out a lot. I wouldnt have called the NVC if it wasnt for you people in visajourney

I can totally understand your frustration, I've been in this whole immigration journey for two years now, my whole family lives in AZ, I'm the only one in Mexico. It is frustrating how one mistake or oversight on your lawyer's part can affect your life so much, if my lawyer had sent everything on time like she was supposed to I would already be living and working in the US.

Don't let this happen to you again, excuse my language, but if you have to be on their ### for them to give you results then do it. Just make sure to keep your cool and be polite, after all they are on your side, they're trying to help, just need a push sometimes.

I wouldn't wait for the Ciudad Juarez Consulate to respond, if the NVC hasn't processed your case and scheduled you an interview yet then it is very unlikely they mailed your case to Juarez either. Instead, I would wait for the NVC to email you the list of documents you need to send or just look for it on their website if they take too long, they do have it posted. After you gather everything it's up to you if you wanna send it by email or certified mail. The processing time doesn't start counting until after they receive everything. The NVC asks you to allow 30 days from them to review your case, mine took about a week after I sent my civil documents by mail.

From what you've told us you're actually pretty close to getting an interview date, all you need now is to send the civil documents (make sure they get them), and wait for them to let you know when they finish processing your case. After the NVC finishes the review, they take 2-8 weeks to schedule an appointment. You're almost there, I know it may seem like a long time, but I'm sure you've waited a lot longer.

Good luck! I hope this helps get you home soon!
