Hello everyone!

I'm looking for the ticket now, K1 visa, and would like to have layover in Europe instead of US because in that case i won't have to worry about how long immigration officer will take and how many hours i should leave for the layover to not be late for the next plane to final destination (most of the flights have layover in NYC and airport there might be busy)

I found really good deal on Luftgansa website. But

- if there is one way ticket, it shows me price around 4000 usd

- if there is return ticket - it is about 500 usd for both !!

So i decided to book return ticket and just not show up for the flight back (use only first ticket from Russia to US)

But i'm afraid that in the airport they will ask me question - why I have return ticket if my visa is K1 which means I'm gonna get married in US. Is there anyone who had return tickets flying with K1? or who can tell me if it will be problem or not?

just this ticket is the best i found but i'm not paying 4k for one way!!

K1 visa, СА

I'd recommend to use price aggregators like anywayanyday or onetwotrip instead of official airlines site. Partners like 3rd party sites usually getting best deals

Also in most airlines there's no mention of return ticket on your ticket there

using the same e-ticket number you will check-in when it's possible to confirm your return flight which you can cancel anytime probably with no refund in econom class

Oh, what a day, what a lovely day!

I've heard a lot of people use round-trip tickets and just cancel the return flight when they arrive. It is much cheaper!

i tried all of them , also aviasales but they all show flights through NYC with short layovers or 17 hr layovers which i'm not doing.

and there is no way to cancel economy ticket on luftgansa

what will happen if i don't cancel it? what if i'm just "missed my plane or overslept"? it happens to people

What they meant - is buy a round trip ticket. after you make the first part of the trip (Russia to US) -- then cancel the return trip.

My advice -- don't cancel anything at all. Just use the ticket to get to US. Airline doesn't care if you cancel, or just don't show up.... you already paid for the return trip anyway.

The reason that we suggest the return ticket is cancelled once you land in the US is because if you don't cancel it- sometimes it will show that you've used the ticket even though you didn't... which means you left the US without Advanced Parole. It has happened to people on here, I'm sure... you can probably search for it.

To prevent that from happening and putting a glitch in your immigration journey, just cancel the return flight after you arrive.

^^ This is exactly correct, and yes it has happened to people before. Advice not to cancel it is not great. It is best to cancel the return flight once in the US to make sure the USCIS does not try and say you left the US before AOS or having AP..

hmm, interesting. Never heard of that.

As far as I know, they take the list of passengers that have checked in on to the flight (maybe not all airlines provide the proper list?)

I'm not sure exactly where the disconnect is... I would assume something as important as a flight passenger list would be correct but I guess it slips through cracks sometimes lol

Yes glitches can happen sometimes. Perhaps when they fill in the empty seats with standby passengers the name on the original ticket/seat still remains on the manifest accidentally. Not sure how it ends up happening. It doesn't happen that often. I have only seen a few cases, but if canceling the ticket can do away with any chance of it happening to you, then just cancel.

This thread topic, and the firm advice to cancel the return portion (retaining notes on agent spoken with, agent's location, and time & date -- kept with your files of immigration papers), has been posted on VJ more times than anyone can remember. Do not treat the return-cancellation admonition lightly!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
