When I entered the country in 2006 I was with my wife and kids, but while going back they left a week before me. This had to do with the extra cash from my wife and from friends.

So my wife and children had nothing to do when I was detained or when I was caught with the cash. My wife got approved for a 10 year tourist visa in 2012 and both my kids got student visa and are working full time on H1.

1. Rather than answering a routine query about carrying cash for a spouse, you 'panicked' and 'lied' that you were working?

2. Why risk a US visa.. which is hard to come by.. rather than simply\honestly saying where a mere $8000 came from?

Sounds far-fetched! More than meets the eye..

I admit it was my mistake to say I worked here, but the situation and the idea of being detained led me to say it and the giving my friends names would result in a complicate inquiry and I did not want that.

I understand I shouldn't have done it, but is there any option for me now?

Might the 'complicated inquiry' really mean that those friends would not have been able to corroborate your story about how they all stopped by your house or apartment and handed you a bunch of money because, well, maybe they had too much money in their own pockets..?? or something.

In real life, who has friends who just drop by and say, 'Key, Karim, here's $1500...have a nice day!'....or...'Karim, I am on my way to the dry cleaners, and I checked the pockets in this coat and found $2000 there...here....you can just have it...'.....

The difficulty you will have with another CO is not that you will or might overstay - it's that you will return to work. That's the issue. The story you told our border folks, I'm guessing, was true...that you were working....because the story you are telling now, about all these philanthropic friends and relatives you apparently have who just give away money is rather difficult to believe.

How you got that money is not important anymore, you admitted illegal working and they put it on your name. So you should arrange visit your kids in South America countries or Mexico to save time and money for everyone.

Visa\Customs officers are trained to weed out inconsistencies far better than amateurs here on vj. Another matter of potential VO concern.. both kids converting from F to H1, wife on a B2.. and the potential of the entire family adjusting in the US due to lack of home ties.

A lot of subjective comments but not sure if any of them matter.

I think the most likely option to come to the US would be through an immigrant visa sponsored by a child, but that is likely many years away.
