How much luggage did you take ?

Im due to fly soon on our K1, there are so many clothes for various seasons that I would like to take. So I thought I'd throw it out there, how much luggage did you take, I know there is excess baggage charges, did you just take for the next season, fall and winter for example and then replace for spring and summer, or did you take everything or as much as you could ?

I am about to book my flight to go to the USA on a K1 too.

I am planning to have 2 big suitcases (23kg each ish) and a carry on.

I will bring for sure winter clothes and fancy clothes.. and few summer stuff since I won't need them for at least 7 months.

There is an extra fee depending on the company about the second luggage and the extra kg/lbs.

When you book just go on their website and you'll find everything.

Are you getting a one way flight?

Do you think that 2:40 hrs between connections is enough ?

I had 2 suitcases both max weight, a carry on and wedding dress! I brought my newest clothes and more spring/summer than fall/winter since the winter is not so long. There are still some things that I want or that I forgot and it didn't fit. I'm planning on getting them when I go back in November

I was rather surprised when Mrs. T-B.-to-be arrived with one smallish suitcase, albeit extremely heavy. She figured that she could buy clothes here. Little did she know how right she was -- within a few weeks, she'd filled our closet (her half and part of mine) with apparel bought at stores' deep-discount sales, resale shops, and garage/moving sales. (The concepts of garage sales and resale shops are unknown in Ecuador, and she was amazed at the quality of "gringo stuff" that people sell.)

Accordingly, I think that your plan is sensible: bring stuff for the upcoming season(s) and replace or retrieve your other clothes later.

My fiancé avoided all excess baggage charges, by upgrading to first class. The great perk, even with the cost (but you can reduce such cost if you have a lot of FFM's to cash in) is that you can bring 3 big bags + a carry-on with BA. This way he was able to pack pretty much everything he wanted to bring. He shipped a few other of his belongings over via snail mail.

I think my fiance is coming with two suit cases maybe? He's from Canada, and I'm in San Antonio, so he'll have an incredible stock of useless cold weather clothes and a minimal stock of 100 degree clothes LOL.

We'll probably purchase more later, luckily he's coming in the fall which means his colder clothes will get more use and we can worry about warm weather clothes later.

Edit: I'm over here saying it's getting colder in Texas and it's like 91 outside. LOL.

My wife and I both moved at the same time so we brought as much as we could in bags of different sizes. I Immigrated on a trans-Atlantic cruise, so we had no maximum baggage allowance. We ended up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 bags :-) (only 4 really big ones though)

in the end I took with me 2 BIG suitcases, 1 Carry-on and a big bag in the end.

with american airlines it costs 100$ to have the second suitcase.

everything went nice and smooth!

I'm planning on shipping boxes ahead of my arrival (surface mail shipping is pretty cheap where I'm from), so that on the day of my departure I'll only have the standard 2 and a carryon. I refuse to pay extra-baggage fees lol.

I got mitts and a hat, beaver with marten, value in excess of $400 for ten dollars at a garage sale. Plow truck for a thousand dollars, eight years of plowing for just the gas, a dump truck for $5K I made over 20 thousand dollars with in two months this summer.

Six dollars for jeans at the second hand store. Two dollars for t-shirts. Good sweatshirts for $5. I love America for these things.

My wife came with one suitcase. But after turning her loose on craigslist, garage sales, and second hand stores she was full-up. The one thing I did spend serious money on was a custom-made expedition weight arctic outfit from Apocalypse Design. The bibs and top alone was over a thousand dollars. Brand new bunny boots and a fur hat. Thermal expedition weight underwear, beaver mitts... And promptly got her off eight months pregnant six miles from the cabin at thirty below zero broken down on the trail. Had to walk back, and she never said a word about being cold

I'm taking 2 big suitecases and 2 hand luggage with me and leaving it there at Christmas. My OH is taking a suitecase back with him when he visits next year and then I'll take 3 big suitecases, 2 hand luggage and pay for my extra bag when I get my visa. I also always take a personal item.
