Hello,

I am currently in the process of trying to move to the U.S. I am 19 years old and was born Winnipeg, Canada. I have lived in Winnipeg my entire life. My grandfather is a US citizen and has lived there since birth. My mother is also in the process of applying for her American citizenship/passport. From what we understand we are qualified for citizenship (have been told by the US Embassy in Calgary). The question I have is do I need to to have completed the process with the n-600 form and have my certificate before I apply for my passport or can I just obtain my passport?

Another side note/question

My boyfriend lives in the US and when attempting to visit him I was refused entry by border control because I "was attempting to immigrate to the US". In no way was I intending to immigrate illegally I do and have always have had the intentions of becoming a US citizen (legally). Will the fact I was denied entry affect me getting my passport such as a delay or even possibly a refusal?

Thank you,

Need more details about your situation. You seem to be saying that you are already a US citizen (only a US citizen can apply for a US passport or file N-600 for a Certificate of Citizenship). This could only be true if you had US citizenship from birth, through your parent(s). Is your mother the parent who is American (who you could have gotten US citizenship from)? If so, were you born in wedlock? What periods of time was your mother in the US prior to your birth? When and where was your mother born? If she was not born in the US, are you saying she got US citizenship from this grandfather (maternal grandfather?)? What periods of time was this grandfather in the US prior to your mother's birth?

If you are a US citizen you can just apply for a US passport without applying for anything else first.
