Can someone tell me what the process is when the beneficiary arrives in the USA? She has her visa and the packets of documentation from the embassy. Since I will be escorting her here to the USA, can I just go in the Non-Citizen line with her and go through the process with her?

When I POE'd with my husband at JFK airport, we were told to go through the non-citizen line. We went up to the window together when it was our turn. Just to be sure, there are usually additional CBP officers at the back of the immigration lines directing traffic, explain the situation to them and they will tell you where they want you to go.

You will exit the airplane and head towards the CBP inspection station. Since the two of your are not yet a family, you each will need a Customs Declaration Form and fill it out on the airplane--make certain to have a pen with you to do this. I would avoid the kiosks as you would be able to use them but she would not. Ask the person directing traffic where the two of you should go. You can go up together, but may be told that she must be processed by herself and then you--this will depend on several factors or they may just process you together. She will hand over the brown "DO NOT OPEN" envelope and they will ask her to go into secondary inspection. This can be a few minutes, to hours depending on how many CBP agents there are and how busy the airport is. You may get to go with her, but I would not count on it. So you will proceed to baggage claim and retrieve your bags and you can wait for her there. Then the two of you will proceed thru the baggage check process and hand over the Customs Declaration Form. If you have a connecting flight, you will return your bags and proceed thru security and to the gate.

Whether you will be allowed to remain with her throughout the entire process will depend on the POE, the CBP you meet, how busy they are, how many other people are going thru secondary, etc. Like I said, ask if you can accompany her, but do not be surprised if they do not let you.
