Hi guys!

Just received my EAD and AP approval (woohoo)! Is it normal to have the same card for AP and EAD. And at this point, am I allowed to travel home? When I enter back to US is that the only card/document I'd have to show? I'm a little worried what if they don't let me in! Does that happen a lot if you're traveling with AP? My AP and EAD both are valid till September 2016. I wanna go home visit my parents in Canada just for 2 weeks before I jump into the job hunting business. Is that a bad idea?

And on a completely offtopic (non-immigration), is September/October considered to be hiring season in the US? My husband says if I go home now chances are I won't get a job till January/February because after mid-October the hiring industry slows down till the end of holiday season. How accurate is this?

Hi guys!

Just received my EAD and AP approval (woohoo)! Is it normal to have the same card for AP and EAD. Yes, its called a combo card. And at this point, am I allowed to travel home? Yes, you can travel at anytime, however you will have to be present for the interview. When I enter back to US is that the only card/document I'd have to show? Take a copy of your marriage certificate in case you have changed your name. I'm a little worried what if they don't let me in! Does that happen a lot if you're traveling with AP? Most people have reentered without an issued using AP, that's a risk you are going to have to take if you really need to travel. My AP and EAD both are valid till September 2016. I wanna go home visit my parents in Canada just for 2 weeks before I jump into the job hunting business. Is that a bad idea?

There is no absolute guarantee that you will be allowed back in the US, with AP, and even with a green card, but only if/when you're a citizen. That's immigration law. That being said, they probably won't give you any hassle if you have the AP. Aside from the AP card you have to have your passport too.

As for the hiring season, depends on your field of expertise and area you're looking into. Generally yes, there is a hiring season, but that does not mean there are no other jobs out there. Again, it depends on your field/area. Usually, companies (mostly large corporations) don't hire in November or December because they want to report a low-as-possible number of employees in their annual reports (looks good to the shareholders) and want to push the hiring into another fiscal quarter if possible. Also, November has a dead week (Thanksgiving) and December is kind of a dead month, as almost half of if is mostly holidays. It's like July and August when most people take their holidays. Things start to thaw mid-January.

Thanks everyone. Just out of curiosity.. My passport is Canadian so I don't need a visa to enter US anyway, do I have to show my AP/EAD card or just showing my passport is good enough?

Also, when I visit Canada on the customs form do I write resident or visitor? Same for return customs form...what do I do? I'm just confused as I'm technically just visiting Canada and currently reside in USA however since my AOS hasn't been approved yet, aren't I still a visitor in USA and a resident of Canada?

Thank you so much

You have to show both.

No idea about what to write on the Canadian customs forms...
