Hello All,

I'm a resident of Hamilton and beneficiary of the K1 visa. I stayed in USA from 2008 to 2013, went to school in Philly. Do I need to get a Police clearance certificate from USA for my consulate interview in Montreal? Many thanks in advance

No, you don't need to get one from the US. They already have access to all US records as it is.

I'm sure others will be here shortly to confirm.

I can confirm you don't need one. I was also on a student visa in the U.S. and I was not asked to provide a police check for my time there!

Thanks for replying back. Any useful tips after the NOA2 visa is approved and how to expedite the process of interview at Montreal Consulate?

Thanks for replying back. Any useful tips after the NOA2 visa is approved and how to expedite the process of interview at Montreal Consulate?

This is my favorite tip and it probably shaved off 3-4 weeks of waiting:

When you get NOA2 start calling the NVC like a week after; you'll want to know exactly when they ship your case to Montreal. As soon as they ship it start working on Packet 3 and email it to them ASAP; this way you won't have to wait on them to send it out since they are notoriously slow. The travel time on your case to Montreal is literally 1-2 days, so by the time they get to your Packet 3 email they should have your case on hand and email you Packet 4. Some people get their Packet 4 the same day or 1-2 days after sending Packet 3, I think it took 5 days for me. As soon as you get Packet 4 you're free to schedule the interview!

Be careful though. Just because it shows Montreal recieved the case doesnt mean they logged it. They recieved mine July 7th, but didn't log it until July 16th.

If they don't have your case in the system, they will just ignore the email. We sent in one on the 13th and it was ignored because the case wasn't logged yet, but the one we sent after the 16th they responded to the same day.

This happened to other people as well. So if you don't hear back from them, just be a little more patient.

My timeline:

NOA2 approval - June 2nd
NVC assigned case number - June 25th
NVC mailed case to MTL - June 30th
MTL recieved case - July 7th
Tried sending packet 3 email, ignored - July 13th
MTL logged case in the system - July 16th
Resent packet 3 after figuring out it was logged - July 23rd
Received packet 4 7 hours later - July 23rd

It took 46 days from NOA2 date until MTL logged it in the system. It took 16 days from when the NVC sent MTL the case for MTL to log it.

Any sending of packet 3 without the case being logged will simply be ignored. They don't go back and look at old emails they've been over.

I guess I got very lucky that they logged mine really fast.

So we just got our NOA2 approved yesterday :joy:. I will start calling NVC after 2 weeks. In the mean time,I will be working on the K1 packet 3 list documents.

1) What should be the content of packet 3 email that I will send to Consulate? Just check all the listed items, sign it and send it?

2) When in the process I am supposed to fill out DS 160? Is it some kind of online form?

3) when should I book a medical test?

Many Thanks!
