The question however, is really, why would an American kid build a bomb and take it to school? It seems that thought never entered the immense chasm between the teacher's ears..

What's funny about this is that, as usual, it becomes a massive media circus - far and above what actually happened and that plenty of commentators see nothing wrong with pointing fingers every which way. Few here seem particularly concerned by how this child was treated (as another poster said, questioned for hours by police without a parent present).

This is how schools end up removing any hint of practical work in favour of theory based learning and reliance on youtube.

Columbine etc shouldn't drive educational policy. The only thing to be gained by pandering to unjustified paranoia is a dumbing down of the education system and poorer student outcomes.

A common sense approach is what's needed, not policy driven by hysteria.

no matter which way you look at it, the school handeled the situation poorly. kid should have never been arrested (similarly, the poptart kid shouldn't have gotten in trouble). america has a problem with juvenile discipline in public schools - shocking - considering we have a multitude of problems and blatant injustices in our adult 'justice' system/pic.

but yeah, lets look for examples of kids bringing actual bombs/guns and think really hard on all the possible lives that could have been lost over the years since columbine/911 (interchangable really)..all because this kid DIDN"T build a bomb and had zero intention of killing anyone.
