Here's a thing, why is it that women feel horny when they are due a period? It doesn't make much sense biologically but as I understand it, it's certainly not uncommon...

That's your body telling you last chance to conceive even though it's a very small chance your body still screams at you.

For the same reason women who are ovulating are more likely to go from no to maybe or from maybe to yes. The body wants to get pregnant.

A depoprovera shot will cure things too.

I know - some of you probably don't like depo - but we are talking ONE shot here....

Depot injections can stop bleeding but can also make it unpredictable for the first few months so not a good idea to use for just one trip.

Oral contraceptives taken back to back are a better bet and can just be stopped as soon as it's convenient wheras the depot stays in the body until it wears off.

There is a pill which you can take which will postpone your period!

Ladies, say you could only visit your hubby about twice a year, and there was no way he could get a visitor's visa to visit you at all.

Now say you've had a trip planned and paid for and then WHAMMO.......................you realize you will be there at "that time of the month".

What would you do? Would you reschedule? Just suck it up and go anyways?

You ladies are hilarious :)

The pill does not take 2 months to be effective... and the way to skip the "blood bath" is to not take the white 'inactive' pills, just start the next pack right away. Have fun on your trip

i was just at the gyno two days ago and got a prescription and thats what she told me........:blink::blink:

My doctor said it took a month. I told her the instructions on the pack (Yasmin brand) say that it's effective immediately or in 7 days, depending on the day you start it. She said, "Really????" I think that the "rules" for some pills have changed, and a lot of doctors don't realize it. Read the itty bitty teeny tiny instructions that come with your pills to see what the drug company says.

A warning: if you've never been on the pill before, the first month might give you a Suicidal Maniacal Crazy Horrible Awful No Good Very Bad Day that goes way beyond your regular PMS moodiness. :girlwerewolf2xn: Happened to me and several women I know. It helps to know that it's just the pill and hormones and stuff, and that it will pass!

AND, since this is just girls, I'll pass along my favorite discovery that I wish I'd known about long ago: The Diva Cup. It's a silicone menstrual cup that you insert during your period: I change it every 12 hours on heavy flow days and once a day on light days. It took a while for me to get used to it -- about 4 months --- but now I love it, LOVE IT! I've only purchased a couple of packs of pantyliners in the past five years. It doesn't smell. Saves lots of packing space. Doesn't fill up landfills. Saves you tons of money and lasts for years and years. And since it sits inside you, you can be completely naked and cuddly in bed during your period. ^_^ I got it from a Canadian company online -- www.divacup.com.

Do be sure to read it because Yasmin may make different kinds of pills and I wouldn't want you to start a baby on my bad advice! Have a nice time with your fiance...

My first shot of depo I had....I actually was spotting for 3 months and I had such horrible cramping I felt like i was in labor. My doctor said if I had just one more shot it should be ok. The heck with that! I never took that stuff again.

Rules are meant to be broken ;)

No seriously if you're opposed to breaking the rules then I would advise you going on BC. I worked both my trips around my cycle since I knew when I'd have it. BC is a wonderful thing.

Muslimas aren't supposed to have sex during their menses. That's the point.

Hahaha...doesn't stop mine either ;) My first trip I stayed an extra week so I got my visitor. That didn't matter much to my husband.

both times that happened to me. luckily it was near the end of it and yes my husband is muslim and it didnt stop him.

I would be carefull about the BC pill though. Jonny came to visit in November and I:
  1. Wanted birth control.
  2. Wanted to keep shark week away.

I took 2 packs of pills back to back starting in early October. As we got close to November... HELLO THERE AUNT FLO! my periods are so irregular, I won't have one for years and when I finally get one... it's a long one. He was here for 10 days in November. She came late October and stayed till early December. I had forgotten about the fact that I might still get a period after the first pack of pills anyway. Didn't stop us of course, just kept a towel handy

I would say, if you are going to stack your pills (or NuvaRing, I have one now and I love it!) like that, give it longer than 2 months so your body is used to it already.

shark week! lol

I'm not going to go into details, but if you rescheduled would it cost you a lot of money? I think it matters how much it would cost to change the dates by a week or something. If it cannot be changed, I would still go because while what you are talking about is important and especially in a new marriage, it is not the only thing in a marriage and being together is the most important part. Are you going to have that time of the month the whole time you are there?

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I'm on Yasmin, and as far as the birth control aspect, you're good in about a week.

To the OP-you can mess around with the timing of the pills to avoid getting your period when you'll be there. Just count forward up till the trip considering 3 weeks off and one week for your period. Then mess around with it until you'll be in the middle of a pack when you get there. Or just take them back to back like someone suggested-wouldn't recommend that long-term, but just this once is probably no big deal.

Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain...just stand up and COMPLAIN!
