Good Morning! All I have noticed that K1 Visa get approved much quicker than Family Visa!! My hubsand and I have been together for over 2 years but, married for 4 months just looking here on VJ I am starting to feel that I should have filed for an K-1 visa because, it seems to be a much faster process.....What is your take on this matter?

I agree. I started my K1 process 15 months ago, I got the visa after 11 months but now, 15 months later, I still don't have my EAD, and probably won't get my green card until next summer ;)

Don't think about it. I kick myself every time I look at the time frames. K1 is a little more expensive but I really wish I had gone with it.

Yes its like that usually start to filing from filing to interview day 6 months usually half the time of a IR1/CR1. But they have more to go through to get green card, to work. So its getting them here faster or get things things they need once they are here immediately so they can get on with life.

We were debating whether or not to do the K-1 vs CR-1. There are pros and cons to both. For us, we decided K-1 was best because:

1. We wanted to be together right away.

2. I had a good job and could support us both comfortably until my wife could work.

3. My family is large and close by and she would never alone "bored," while I'm at work.

4. I live in New Jersey, about 15 min from New York, so there was plenty to do to keep her entertained while waiting for EAD.

I understand that process but, I see on here it looks like it's taking them 6 months and for spouse and family visas it's taking 6 months up to 2 to 3 years if not more

More background checks for family visa and you receive a greencard shortly after entering. K's have another step with aos. The timing is correct.

Right, but you're just looking at how long it takes to get here, not getting the actual greencard.

Oh! wow so, did it take you 4 years for your husband to get here? We didn't do the K-1 after 18 months of being together we knew we wanted to be together. It just saddens me that we have to do this process but, I will do what I need to do to get my family all together.

Don't think about it. I kick myself every time I look at the time frames. K1 is a little more expensive but I really wish I had gone with it.

*** Thread moved from CR-1 Process forum to the General Immigration Discussion forum -- topic involves the comparative merits of visa paths. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Unless there are circumstances, the K-1 works very much faster, but there are exceptions.

But, overall, K-1 is a few months and I-130.,...,CR-1 is a year or more. This is in generally speaking, there are "circumstances" that can change both.

So, it is your option, pick what is right for you.

Thank you! I knew I would make sense to someone....We knew that we was going to be together it's just the K-1 he would have ben here in 6 months with the K-3 it will have you away from each other for however long they feel you have to be Thank you again!

I get ur point. Although it took us almost two years to get gc, he was here in less than 6 months, on the K-1.
