Who had to take the G.E.D here to get a job?

OKay, Hubby graduated from high school in UK back in 1983 (he's almost 40 now). Now that he has relocated here we need to get his diploma

evaluated for a high school diploma equivalency. The requirements to graduate from secondary education in 2007 were different from the requirements in 1983.

Do you think WES (world education services) takes into account the year you graduated from or are they going to compare his diploma by the standards of 2007. If they don't, then he's going to have to take the GED test here , which actually will suck being that they have a math test and he hasn't done all this in 24 years so he's finding it difficult. We don't want to spend the $100 to get evaluated if they are going to flat out say no.

It really sucks that a lot of jobs don't want him just because he doesn't have a GED, but he was worked successfully in the mental health field for 15 years in England. It's not right to hold people back just because of a stupid diploma. Really though, when the hell is he ever going to use algebra or geometry again while taking care of mentally ill people or at any job?

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems getting their education evaluated.

Thanks

http://www.educationinternational.org/procedure.htm I used this out to evaluate my Canadian High school, to ensure it met USA standards!! I graduated in 1991 with the bare minimums,I was a slacker, lol and I got the transcript from them stating I had the equivalent to a USA High School diploma. Fee was $75( plus $5 per extra copy), and they were very fast. I actually had it back before the cheque was cashed!!! And they were always prompt answering my emails.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Great, is this what I have to look forward to?

I never got my highschool but entered university as a mature student after completing a few exams. Didn't get a degree but through a series of circumstances (and luck) I work in a skilled and professional field based on experience, performance, etc. I have excellent references too.

UGH!

Did your husband just leave school in UK? Or did he take some of the exams they offer ... GCSEs or O levels or A levels? I would think passing the exams would provide a stronger case for US high school equivalency than left school at 16 without anything.

There was no High School Diploma in the UK back in the late 70's and early 80's he would have taken C.S.E's and maybe O-levels...

I left School in 1979 with C.S.E's and then in the 80's I went to college so I have my college HND certificate, I then went to University and did my Degree..

I have not been able to get anything from my old school showing what C.S.E's I did because they no longer have the records...

I don't have anything with my schooling on either.

You can find out about GED with your local education dept, I know my state offers free studying guides and groups and the test is free.

However its a bit of a pain too, I understand.

I was homeschooled and therefore have no piece of paper either and I am having a hard time with that.
