My fiance met with a friend of ours who is a doctor.

She told him he needs to take the vaccine for catapora. Did your doctors tell you that?

Eliton never had catapora as a child. But the problem is that they don't offer this vaccine at the posto de saude - he would have to pay about R$130 (that is alot to me).

I heard that in SP and Salvador you can get this for free.

What is your advice?

Also, does he need the pneumonia vaccine? I didn't even know they had that...

Help me please. We're meeting in Rio next week!

I had to take varicella shot because I thought I didn't have it while I was a kid and it was R$ 80.00 each (it was 2 shots, one in august one in september) because some shots like that ''cost too much for the government'' (at least that was the excuse they gave me) to do it for free, so I had to take it at a private clinic. Total R$ 160.00. I also had to pay for influenza shot R$ 30.00 for the same reason, they didn't have it at the Posto de Saúde for free. And I tried in 2 different states.

I didn't need pneumonia shot, but the doctor may ask depending on the health history of the patient. My advice is if the doctor told him to take it he better take it. If he can find it for free, good, if not he's gonna have to pay.

Thanks so much Nessa! I e-mailed the doctor (who always responds pretty quickly) but if I don't hear from him by tomorrow afternoon then I'll call his secretary. My fiance has always been very healthy so I hope that he doesn't need the pneumonia vaccine.

He did not have catapora and so I'm sure he'll need to get that.

I'll find out once I talk to the doctor whether or not he can wait to get it take in Rio - otherwise he'll have to pay.

Yea, Varicela is Chickenpox. I know children in the U.S. have to be vaccinated for it - my sister is 9 and had the vaccine.

The doctor told me that Eliton has to have the vaccine too (he never had chickenpox) so he'll go to a private laboratory and get it done. The doctor asked for Eliton's age and when I told him 23 he said he doesn't need it.

Good. He already had tetanus, MMR, and I think 2 or 3 others.

He actually had 4 blood tests done - not just the 2 - haha.

Well, one more week 'til we meet in Rio!!!

Good luck Randy & Fabi!

I had chickenpox when I was 19, so I didn't have any trouble telling the doctor I didn't need a vaccine, 'cus I was 100% sure I had had chickenpox (he looked at my vaccines and was like "hmmmm, do you remember 100% if you had chickenpox?, then he laughed and said he was sorry I had it at 19 'cus he knows how bad that is).

All my other vaccines were free, except the third doses of 2 of them that I had to take here, so I had to pay.
