Hi all! My husband and I are getting ready to file our taxes for the first time in the US. Which is a headache on its own, and yet as usual something else complicates matters. One of my employers has gone out of business and I have not received a T4 from them, all the phone numbers I have for them have been diconnected and I'm at a loss at what to do. I remember my accountant in Canada calling a number and he was told all the T4s on file or something but I cannot find such number on the government of Canada website!

Has this happen to anyone? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Whenever, wherever

We're meant to be together

I'll be there and you'll be near

And that's the deal my dear

Thereover, hereunder

You'll never have to wonder

We can always play by ear

But that's the deal my dear

Finally in USA with hubby!!

google the # for international revenue canada, or just the regular revenue canada # (which may not work from the USA, where the international # will) and ask how about to get your T4 slip

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I was doing some searching on the subject and found this...

n a self-assessing system the responsibility is yours to make sure that all of your employers have your right address. If you have done that and by March 1 you are still missing T4's write again to those missing employers reminding them of their legal obligation to have the T4's out by February 28. If after another 10 days that hasn't worked, write, or better still, visit the District Taxation Office in the district where the employer is located giving the employer's name and address, and they will either provide you with the information on their copy of the T4 or take steps to find out why it isn't there. If you're still getting nowhere, estimate the amounts of income and deductions, preferably based on those pay stubs which you should have been saving all year.

CRA gets one copy of all T4s as sent to them from the employers. Call them at 1-800-959-8281. Press * at the first prompt. You will be through to someone in no time!! I know that as of today they only had some T4 slips on file. All government issued slips are on file but T4's aren't all updated yet. You can call and check. If not then wait a few days and call again.

Good luck!

Well the 1800 # flames provided can't be reached from Missouri. But, my brother in law passed away on the 16 so I'm in Toronto and will visit the Tax office on Front Street. The number I called to get this info was 1800 O CANADA (622-6232) who were very helpful.
