Its not lottery based. There is a specific amount of visas given out every year for H1B. I think 60.000. Start of application is April. When they are all gone, then there is no more chance to apply

For the past few years there have been lotteries due to increased applications. 85,000 is the quota for visas available (65,000 regular and 20,000 for those with Masters degrees and beyond), but many more people apply. It's not a first come, first serve basis. There is a lottery. We know, we went through it in 2014, with premium processing obviously submitted with an extensive dossier, well prepared before April.

This was our "VisaJourney" of the H1-B process: http://redbus2us.com . Check there to get important information about quotas, stats, etc.

You can also check here to confirm the 233,00 applicants for FY 2016: http://redbus2us.com/official-news-uscis-h1b-2016-233000-petitions-received-lottery-completed/

try for k-1 route and never ever try to circumvent the procedure...it's the best advice. The k-1 route will take time but at the end you will be at peace...rest is your choice..

H1B are (allegedly) specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree (or numerous years of equivalent experience)..something that is not required for the typical secretarial positions...and an L1B is for 'specialized knowledge' individuals....whose skills are so unique that they cannot be found in the US....I will go out on a limb and suggest that the OP does not have some totally unique skillset to bring to the secretarial field...in addition, she would have to have worked overseas for a parent company or subsidiary company of the one in the US...for at least one year....another tiptoeing along the same limb brings me to the conclusion that her future FIL has not opened a branch office in her country, in which she has worked and is so unique amongst secretaries that no American secretary could do the job........

Where does the H1b come into this?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

In general yes but in this case?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
