Hello,

My husband and I are at the NVC stage of our process and things are moving along. My husband's passport had expired years ago and he got a new one with his official full name.......WHICH HAS A SECOND LAST NAME!!! I was unaware of this as he already has 2 first names, a middle name and his surname which is on our marriage license, his birth certificate, military id.. He just informed me that on all Egyptian national IDs and passports they use their full last names which is the grandfather's name, however he doesn't use it for anything else when signing documents, filling out applications, etc. I am freaking out because all the info that I have submitted to the USCIS and NVC does not have this second last name on it. We are in the process of collecting our documents and getting ready to pay the IV fee and fill in the 260 which asks for his name as it is on his passport. What should I do??? Should I just write a statement and send it in with our IV package? Please advise.

Hello

Am an Egyptian married to An American citizen wife , we on Cr1 visa too

I think you had to type your Egyptian husband name match as in passport ( Egyptian way 4 or 5 names ) . BUT now as u didn't do it since the beginning , I think u should go on type it the same u been doing ( the American way , first and last name ) and write them a statement .

In the American Embassy in Cairo they do understand the deference so it won't be a problem , I guess .

What am wondering about , did you marry in Egypt ? ?

Cause if you married in Cairo that mean your Egyptian marriage Certificate by Arabic signed by his full name ( Eg way ) and that mean the translation in the Justic minister you had it translated the full name ( eg way )

And like that u should type his name as on your marriage Certificate .

But anyways I don't think it's serious issue , think they know these things about deference ,

They did not use his second last name on our Arabic marriage papers or in English translation. His military papers do not have it. His college degree does not have it nor does his birth certificate. He is waiting for his police papers to come and the application says to write ur name exactly how it reads on your passport. He has never told me about this additional last name because he never used it for anything and I hope I can just write a statement about this becoz its making me so nervous now.

Ok ,

here in Egypt when we go to get the passport issued , they let it up to us to type the name by English however we want it to be typing and give us petition to fill the English name ...

So I guess he can try and goes to edit his name in his passport , it's take 3 business day only for passport here to be issued .

The passport Issuance's office give a great services in Egypt .

For example is his name is ( Ahmed Ali Said Ibrahim Hassan )and he even fill all the 5 full name by Arabic . He can fill it by English for sure like ( Ahmed Ali Said Ibrahim ) or even ( Ahmed Ali Said Hassan )

Ok...Thank you so much. They misspelled his first name as well and I suggested he go and fix it so I will see if he can re do the whole name and leave this second last name off. It is so much even for buying an airline ticket it will need to list all 5 names.

I hope so. Everything has been going so smoothly and we have had no issues with paperwork or moving thru this process in a timely manner. I would hate to slow things down with something like this. I want to hurry and complete this paperwork and send it. I am going to Egypt in 3 weeks to see my husband and I don't want any issues with getting everything done.

My husband's passport expired in the midst of us applying for our K-1 visa. When he received the new passport, and 2 of the 5 names were spelled differently on the new passport, I just sent in a letter and explained the situation. Also, my husband wanted his "last" name to be his "second" name, so I explained in the same letter that he had one first name and 4 last names, beginning with the second name in his list. There were no problems and the correction was made. When his visa was printed, it had all of his name in preferred order and spelled according to his second passport.

Thank you for the advice. He needs to go back and have the passport redone because they have misspelled one of his first names and combined the 2 names as one, even though he wrote it out in English the way it should be. I am going to tell him to just write it down in English the names we have been using thruout this process. The full name will still be there in Arabic. If he has 5 names on his passport, won't this affect everything in his life when he arrives to the USA? It will be the name that is on his Social Security Card, bank accounts, airline tickets, job applications. I hope that he can do this. Thank you again.
