*sigh* We just found out the same thing about Joel...background checks aren't completed yet and no timeline can be given as to when it will be finished. IF we haven't received a response in 6 MONTHS from this date (Feb 22) then feel free (HAHAHAHA) to call or contact your service center.

BWAHAHAHAHA

It is time to take this to the press. TAKE THIS TO THE PRESS!

I have been trying but am getting nowhere. My latest reply from a journalist (the only one to get back to me) was the following:

Mon Jan 29, 2007

I'm sorry, I've been inundated with other stories and have not been able to explore the situation with regard to the FBI namecheck, other than to talk with some immigration lawyers and confirm it is, indeed, a problem.

I wish I could devote more time to it, but I don't see it happening in the next few weeks. But check back, I think it's something we might be able to deal with at some point.

I'm sorry I don't have better news, or more time.

The most frustrating thing is that the media are happy to cover the story when it is people suing for citizenship (google FBI Name Check in the news section and the stories are all Feb 8th and 9th and of that nature). It doesnt seem, however, that anybody wants to cover it for green card adjustment of status, even when the ombudsman himself said that these delays mean people can live and work in the USA while their namecheck is being investigated, and that isn't a good thing when the name checks take an indeterminable amount of time, or an infinity to be returned.

If anybody has any more luck than I have been having, please let us know.

Hugs

Annie

We understand that you are anxious and frustrated, however, the law requires all applicants complete a background check to ensure the safety and security of all Americans. As per the information you were previously provided, we are not able to provide a timeframe regarding the processing of security checks.

The irony being if Wes was a bad egg (and we know he isn't), 15 months is a long time to learn how to build a dirty bomb, learn how to fly (and not land) an airplane, start funding al quaeda, etc. All whilst in the US of A.

Seriously, not even Franz Kafka could have come up with this sh*t.

You are so right, if he was a bad un he would have surely proved that by now.

In your place I would be very tempted to take this to the press.

Unfortunately, most Americans have no idea, and probably, don't want to know what the process of applying for permanent residency involves. Most people think that if you marry a US citizen, you automatically get citizenship right away. Duh... I doubt that the press can be helpful in this situation, cause most people simply won't understand what it's all about. These things attract much less attention than, say, illegal aliens jumping over the fence :(

It sucks. It just plain sucks. I am SO SORRY, Rebeccajo :( No one should have to go through so much bureaucratic nonsense.

Rebecca,

I am so sorry to hear this is still going on. Is there nothing your congressman can do to get it sorted? It really cramps your life style and puts extra stresses that you dont need, doesnt it

I have had to re-register because for weeks and weeks I have been getting error messages and couldnt get it fixed.

I hope to hear of good news for Wes really soon, (so much for keeping America safe)

ooops not Wes, but really its so stoopid, the way they apply the rules!

keep your chin up,

More likely than not, the person who wrote that has a directive to always say exactly that.

Sorry you have to deal with this, Rebecca.

I have a folder full of emails from our AO and they always contain similar canned language. I will give him props, though, for phoning us on two different occasions when we were particularly stressed. I believe he is just as frustrated as we are - I don't think they like having old files lying about. But when it comes to anything in writing - yeah he plays it very safe.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody.

No, there really isn't. I have two letters from Senator Robert E. Byrd (one of the most powerful men in Washington) saying he cannot help us.

I have a contact who used to be VERY senior with INS, and he can do nothing.

This is the true blackhole you had nightmares about when your visa was processing. Fortunately, we are together. Thank God.

Two Thoughts and a disclaimer (2 Cents Worth)

1) Jeraldo Rivera - if he can open Al Capon's empty safe, he can do this.

2) Run your own background check just to see what's 'up'. :secret:

*I know you've probably heard better from more experienced people, but thought I'd add my 2cents.

p.s.

That Really Sucks (ok, my 2 and half cents) :ranting:
