Hi everyone,

I am currently applying to adjust my status based on marriage to a US citizen, and I was wondering what I should be filling in for the Alien Number.

I used to have a greencard, I came to the US when I was 11 when my fathers job transferred us here. When I was 21 I gave up my greencard voluntarily to move to Ireland.

So technically I guess I HAD an alien number, since I did have a greencard when I was a kid... Should I be using that number when I file again? Or is that number null and void now?

I've searched the net far and wide and can't find the answer.... Can't afford to talk to a lawyer either :(

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer me.

Please can you tell me which form number are you filling? because normally you don't need to fill those section which will be filed by immigration officers

....as well there should be a section in the form where they might have asked about your previous visits to US or previous applications for immigration or visits history ... mention it there I hope you can find it in the right form.

They are asking for the A number on the i-130, and the I-485, and the I-765...

That's another issue I have.
Part 11 of the i-765 asks if I've ever applied for employment before ... It says to attach documents showing the result of this... It was applied for me back when I was a kid, and it was granted, but I have no documents about this and I know nothing about it. I was only 11 when I got my first greencard, I don't know the date, or the place it was applied for as I didn't handle that myself... I'm estranged from my family so I can't ask them (to be honest I don't think they'd know anyway because lawyers from my dads company handled this)

Oh I know when I withdrew it. They are asking for the date and place of approval of my original work permit.

I'm guessing I have to somehow consult a lawyer before I send the package in... I can't afford to hire one to do this for me completely but maybe I can consult with one to have them look over my package and help out with final questions...

Contacting any consultant will help until you have a friend in between. they don't help until you pay and for pay they first take your case from you and make the mistake in your case to hold the case with them. So be careful don't give them any original or even a copy of you document just sit and discuss and show them the empty form. They try to be smart and make our life miserable. Best of luck try to search more on internet blogs and tell everyone in your circle friends may be someone know any good consultant or someone know who has also gone through the same process.

To answer your question posed in the OP: alien numbers are, like social security numbers, issued for life. You should include your old alien number on your new forms because it hasn't changed, nor will it (except by accident - which can lead to more problems that you don't want).
