FWIW a LOT less drama than I expected. I helped load the baggage into the van and stood by the wayside while the family unit sais their goodbyes, tears included. Wife said it's time to go, walked out, I stepped back in to tell the siblings to study hard, told mom and dad we'll see you on Skype and that was it.

Of course I don't know what transpired after we left. But it was substantially cleaner than I had expected.

It went about the same for my wife and myself... Most of the crying, hugging and more crying happened the day before... What hit my wife the hardest was walking through the airport doors... The 2 times before when I had visited it was just me... But when she realized that she was leaving her country into the great unknown was very hard for her... She came close to not boarding the plane... It was a long hard flight for her... A lot of hugging and telling her what a good life awaits her here... First thing was talking to her family... The rest is time time time... But for us? Coming up on 10 years married and it kept getting better and better every year... Best of luck!

Now all I have to do is gradually wean her off the twice a day 2 hour Skype sessions that replaced me with her family, haha. Time eventually will cure this issue. Thankful we have this opportunity versus going 'cold turkey' as I'm sure some couples must endure.

Sounds like you are making progress. When my wife and kids arrived they were on Skype and FB talking and chatting. Now, my wife speaks to her mom about once every other week. The kids don't post nearly as much to FB as they did in the past. And, they have pretty much fallen into a routine of work, family life and school.

Good to hear from you.

I did the EXACT same thing. I spent three days with her extended family in the province before she left with me to the US. I assured her mother and grandmother......aaaannnnd Great Grandmother (LOL), that I would take good care of her. Her family couldn't have been more friendly. I'm sure they miss her, and she misses them. After we got married in the US, we delayed our wedding reception and had it back in the Philippines with her family. I made sure she had communication avenues with her family once she got here. I also subscribed to Filipino TV networks on my satellite provider so that she could see TV from home.

I think the fact that you have that train of thought means you are doing all the right things. :joy:

I have a very small family, her family is HUGE. I tell her all the time that her family is my family also and I care for them too.

I spent a month with my girl, She is from Bicol area.

I meet her in Manila for interview, we did interview and flew back to her hometown and spent a couple weeks with her and family, I stayed in her house we had AC in her room.

Third week I flew to Davao and spent a week with my buddies there, I flew back to her hometown the final week and we had a party the last night and then her mom and dad and 2 sister took us to airport, not a lot of tears.

Wean her off twice a day skype... Now that is funny. My wife has been chatting twice a day for three years now, she uses viber as it is much nicer that skype (since microsoft bought it).

Have not left for the USA with her yet, but have left from there many times to other countries together, usually its lechon a day or two before, lots of drinking and magic sing, hugs and goodbye, hangovers help all parties involved lol, I know doesn't quite fit the OP but just wanted to share :-)
