So my Fiancee is going for her B-2 interview Today(Today, Beijing time), she has prepared all of the documentation as necessary to my knowledge, I trust her word on this.

  • DS-160
  • 2 51mmx51mm Passport Photos
  • Current Valid Passport greater than 6months to expiration, with several stamps from other countries
  • Interview Appointment letter
  • Notarized document from her employer as proof of employment (City level high school teacher)
  • Proof of home ownership
  • Several years of pay history
  • Bank Records showing excess of 100,000RMB in savings

I'm fairly confident that there will be no reason for her to be denied, during the interview she is going to answer all questions completely honest (purpose of visit, tourism, duration of stay 30 days), we are already planning to file the K-1 paperwork on a later date, after she has returned Home, this trip is purely for tourism purposes.

The only question I really have is, I have seen a few posts from awhile ago, but none really recently, that were indicating that there were delays in the printing of the Visa. Applicants were informed that they would receive their Passport back with Visa in 5-7 business days, but it had taken several weeks.

Now I know every Embassy/Consulate will be different, so I am just wondering if anyone has any input on the Consulate in Beijing

Thanks,

Printing the visa is the easy part....obtaining one will be the challenging part...especially with a K1 in process, sadly, far too many foreign fiancées have 'forgotten' to return and instead use the B2 to circumvent the several month waiting period for the completion of the fiancé visa....a job letter means little as she will be leaving said job anyway once the K1 is approved; the same for her home...it will be....rented? sold? Given to relatives? I would not be overly confident that she will get a B2. If she does, the second phase, actually getting it printed, etc, will be the downhill portion of this endeavor.

The K1 won't even be on record for any kind of reference, we are not filling out and filing the papers for it until the middle to the end of October, so that can't be a reason for denial, as for her home, even after we finish the K1 process, her home will remain in her possession as a place to stay for trips back to China when she goes to visit family and friends.

Still, will she say she is traveling to 'see a friend' or 'my fiancée?' Your timeline appears to indicate that a K1 has been started and that information will bubble up on the consular official's screen.

The VJ timeline is just that a VJ timeline, I started it in advance to fill out as the steps are currently taken, currently no information has been added to my timeline, outside of just starting it, no notice of paperwork filed, ect.. The only people who know about the K1 are She and I, plus there is no demographic information about myself stored in VJ that would link to a Consular's computer, so I do not see how that information would "bubble up" as you say, onto their screen. On top of that my name won't come up during the interview, because the true purpose of her visit is for Tourism, She will be visiting other states in the country, she will be travelling by Bus and plane, and visiting her friends that are in the country on student and work visa's when available. I am just one of her many stops. She wants a chance to see the country that she will be moving to about a year from now.

At this point I see you don't have any information, and are just prodding in an attempt to debunk my original question. I appreciate your responses, and maybe someone else has further experience with this Consulate, and since VJ is primarily a Immigration forum, and the Beijing Consulate does not handle any immigration visa's there are no Consulate reviews to refer back to, which is why I opened the question in this forum to begin with.

There was a glitch some months back, why does it matter?

There was a glitch some months back, why does it matter?

She was just hoping to be able to plan her trip before december. I did not know there was a glitch, just that many people were reporting large delays, this is why I was asking. Now that I know it was a glitch, I'm sure everything will be fine.

Despite all the back and forth with responses here, please let us know how her B2 interview goes. Good luck.

Not a problem, I will keep the thread updated.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, B2 visas are normally printed the same day...the return of passports with visas in them could take some number of days, depending on the reliability of local courier and/or mail service.

Computer/system glitches might delay printing by a day or two unless there was some system-wide shutdown....

consulates prefer to print approved visas as soon as possible in order to better manage the efficiency of the entire process.

As promised here is the update. So to start i crashed out around 11pm waiting for her to go to the interview. Called her before i went to sleep and wished her luck.

Long story short she went to the interview, they asked maybe 2 or 3 questions, looked at her passport with stamps from 6-7 other countries, and said approved. Now we just need to wait for them to return her passport and she can plan her trip.

Home ownership, employment letter and money don't necessarily prove strong ties as most people may think. A house can be sold, a job can be quit, and money in the bank can be transferred to wherever you go. The passport stamps from 6 or 7 other countries, was probably what tipped the scale for her, not the other stuff. Had you included that in your original post, you probably wouldn't have gotten the comments that you did. By the way, Congratulations!

Totally understand where you're coming from about receiving the comments, I just didn't mention that because I wasn't concerned about the Visa approval, just looking for information about a previously reported delay, which turned out to be a glitch.

By the way, thank you for the congratulations! Her trip here is just one of many trips we will be making together during as we begin the K-1 process, I have already scheduled vacation at work going out 8 months to help minimize the amount of time we are separated before we can make everything legal and official.
