I'm a US citizen, my wife just became a US citizen, she decided to have her mother move here and live with us, it's been a living hell. Mother in law is in the process of getting her green card (application submitted, have her work permit, and social security number already). A friend of mine sponsored her only because my income (previous tax return) was not sufficient. I say it's been a living hell because she is asking us to get a divorce and asking stupid questions such as "you are cheating on your wife aren't you" This all happened after her application for green card has been submitted and waiting for interview. I feel that I have gotten taken advantage of my status and she is trying to tear our marriage apart. My question is, is there a way for me to put a hold on her green card processing?

What does you wife think about the way your MIL treats you? Does she support you or does she choose to listen to her mom? If she lives at your home you can ask her to leave your house and that gets rid of the immediate problem. If your wife is the one that petition for her and since your are not the primary sponsor there isn't much you can do to stop the process.

If the green card has not been issued whoever submitted the affidavit of support can withdraw it from the case, then the case would halt or get denied if the petitioner does not provide a valid affidavit os support.

Send a notarized letter withdrawing the affidavit and explaining why the affidavit is withdrawn with as much information on the immigrant as possible to the address where the application was filed AND scheduling an infopass appointment to put the letter directly into the hands of an immigration officer.

Also use the address noted in the case receipt notice, form letter I-797C.

In my opinion, the problems with the mil have nothing to do with the immigration process. If you are having problems with her, you should talk to your wife and see if you are on the same page as far as her mom living in the same household.

If your wife sides with her mom on the cheating accusations, that's a problem on a whole different level and stopping the MILs greencard won't mend the problems between all of you.

I understand why you feel taken advantage of, but it really could just be that your MIL can't stand you?

To me this is a "husband and wife problem"..,.,.,and a minor problem of 'immigration' as you have not stated your wife's views on what the MIL is saying or doing.

Until that is known, how could the problem be properly addressed?

Maybe I missed something, but I read nothing about your wife's position about this.

I agree with nane1104 and raven52--this is something you should really talk to your wife about. I further feel that taking unilateral action (i.e. without talking to your wife) against the MIL to a such degree as to block her immigration process is just gonna lead to more trouble and it won't be just with the MIL anymore. Just imagine how you would feel if the situation was reversed and your wife blocked your mother from a green card without even discussing it with you.

tldr version: Talk to your wife.

I'm going to echo what everyone else said: talk to your wife.

Even if you pull your support she could just decide to stay illegally or have her daughter find someone else to do the AOS. If she doesn't like you know she will hate you when you pull the application. Also if your wife is supporting this and not standing up for you, then your MIL is the least of your problems.
