I was an Orthopedic Surgeon working in Nepal. I have now immigrated to US with a permanent residency status. I am 29 years old and I wonder if I can serve in the US army by any means and more of as a medical person...Please advise me...

No, not yet. I just arrived a week ago and my social security card is under process. May be a week. So I can't enquire anywhere without the number but my worried mind is busy thinking of best options to take my career ahead. ..Serving the US army would be an honorable job but just wondering if I can serve as a medical person without the United States medical license..

You should still go speak to them, even if you are not currently qualified to enlist. They will answer your questions

Ditto

As a permanent resident you have the possibility to enlist in the Army. Your (MOS) military occupational specialty might be limited though as a perm resident. Meaning the job you want may not be available.

As a citizen you could enlist or potentially be an officer in the Army. I think the MOS for orthopedic surgeon jobs in the Army is (61M). Medical doctors in the army require you to be an officer, in order to be an officer you have to be a citizen.

Hi,

As an LPR, you can join the US military. You will need to get US qualifications to be serve in the medical field in the military. If you want to be a doctor, then you would need to pass the US medical board exams. You may qualify for a lesser role as a medic. Joining the US military does not get a waiver for meeting the requirements to practice medicine.

Best of luck.
