Wow.... great disparity of subjects here... we are indeed a 'melting pot' of our own, aren't we?

I thought of a poll question too.... I'll post it in a minute.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Currently I am reading The God Dilusion by Richard Dawkins. A nice light read!!

Hee hee.. Actually it's an interesting reason I'm reading it. My brother (self proclaimed atheist) is using it as a launch pad to open a dialogue between me (a self professed Christian) and himself as to why we believe what we believe. Nice one!! I'm enjoying the read, challenging, and also assuring at the same time!

Books are non-threatening ways to open dialogue.... or at least they CAN be non-threatening, depending on the subject. I didn't want to overdo the poll thing, but I did wonder what genre seems to be most popular these days. The self-help section seems to be very popular where I live. But then again, I do live in the midwest. :P

For me, it's soooooooo not the self-help section.....I think these days it's a case of 'wwdpd?' (what would dr phil do?) I think society as a whole has a way of embracing this mindset with these stupid buzzwords. No, men are not from Venus, women are not from Mars...he probably isn't that into you, but do you really need to read a book to figure that out?, and if you want some chicken soup, go to the damn kitchen and make some!

I think a thread on here recently is a perfect example of that. Let's open a dialogue to discuss what potential problems may or may not happen down the road, and let's discuss how you feel, blah blah blah.....

Sorry if I offend, but these are my views only....

I get what you're saying Lisa... I'm not a personal fan of most of the contents of the self-help section either, but I do have a few in my library... most recently about second marriages and blending households...

People are comforted in knowing that they are not alone. Not everyone is strongly convicted and many struggle just to get through the day. Some of those sorts of books can lead people astray, but some are genuinely helpful.

I do have to disagree with your comment about men not being from Venus, though :P

Letter to a christian nation

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I'm reading 'Conversations with God' book one.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The Book of Revelation. There is something therapeutic about prophesy.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Twenty-One Stories by Graham Greene.

I LOVE this website: http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/books/search?email=

You enter the book you just finished and it'll recommend quite a few others you could read next.
