Donating Stuff in Toronto

I have a ton of stuff that I want to donate (furniture, books, clothes, salvageable computer equipment) but I can't seem to find anyone to pick it up! Good Will and Salvation Army no longer do pickups in Toronto.

I don't drive, don't have a license... any ideas on who would pick up, other than you know, throwing it all out with the trash?

Damn, they don't take furniture that's been torn (like couches). With a maximum of 10 cats here once I have some pretty scratched up couches... I'll ask them on the phone but it looks like I might just be putting it out with the trash or something.

How about Freecycle.org or Craigslist? If someone really needs a couch they could come get it

ETA: although you might not want to play up the torn up couch by a pack of cats, lol

I've had really bad luck with freecycle before. People never showing up... but it is worth a shot! Thanks!

Are you connected with a church? Sometimes youth groups or church camps want those kinds of donations.. they might help:)

I tried donating everything to the Salvation Army, they came in, saw a 1cm tear on the back of the couch, and left. Refused to look at anything else. Ended up having to have a good chunk of the bigger stuff taken by a cartage company. And for the rest, I invited all my neighbors in to "shop". Shouldnt have paid to have anything carted as everything I owned was spoken for within a matter of hours once I got my neighbors involved. Would that be an option if nothing else works? Asking neighbors if they know of anyone who might want/need what you are getting rid of?

I've been trying to give stuff to friends but the big items, couches, no one wants. I live near condo land here so everyone is pretty yuppy and probably doesn't want my furniture! Plus I don't really like my neighbours too much... I don't quite "fit" into the "lifestyle" here (not a yuppy, don't have money, pretty extensively tattooed).

Yep, I sold almost all my furniture that way, made some good money too!

You would be suprised of what people will buy, or take for free on http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/about/cities.html I have given away for free washer/dryer, complete fish tank with fish supplies, computer monitor. I try to sell, but most people want free,lol Wife wasn't pleased that I gave it away, but beats paying someone to haul away the heavy stuff.

try some homeless shelters. They may need some stuff, or know of someone looking for stuff, and goodness knows there's a few in Toronto!
