It depends on what circumstances at which he/she is applying for,

1, Means tested benefit; this are public benefits that you qualified for based on your income or resources. examples of this kind are food stamps,,TANF,SSI. If you can get a letter from the agencies stating you get this above benefit your fee waiver will be approve.

2, Household income can also be used to verify your eligibilty for fee waiver. in this section you need to provide your monthly pay stubs if you are gainfully employ and also your prevoius tax papers if you have one. uscis will compare the total amount ot the federal poverty guidline.

3, Financial hardship. in this section you have to write about why you cant afford to pay the fee and what effect it will have on you if u do.

i hope this helps you. i also applied for a fee waiver too but waiting to hear from uscis. i have mailed my application since the 4th of september.

^ I am pretty poor (I'm a college student currently not working - last year I made like $15,000) but I would never think of using that waiver unless it was 300% necessary. I honestly don't think it looks very good on us to want to become citizens while we are not even able to afford the fee to become citizens (which, honestly... $680 is quite a bit... but not a millionaire amount... and we've had 3-5< years to save for this moment)

With the current political climate of treating immigrants like they are leeches just waiting to take advantage of the US' welfare system... it seems like the best idea would be NOT to rely on help from the government to pay this fee. Trump is currently holding 27% of the Republican vote. Yes, the man that said that all Mexicans come to rape, steal, and use our welfare system.

What do you think these people will think when we say "Hey! I wanna become a US citizen - BUT I am poor, so you gotta pay the fee - and you can bet I will keep using your welfare system when I become a citizen!"

This post doesn't mean I am against welfare (let's make this clear - I've been there) I just think it is not a very smart idea for us to ask for the waiver of the citizenship fee.

Did u asked yourself this quetions if your answers answered what that persons asked? she needs a help and not you judging how people use benefits. If uscis makes this benefits publicly and u have what it takes to get them why should that bother you if someone else meet the criteria? fine if you are very rich to afford the money good for you but you have no business interfering when others applied for our situation are not the same,you can be free to share your situation here but not all can do same. so if we can read and find out there are means for us to apply for citizenship hassle-free without paying the fees and you fall into the categories of those people. the decision to take it or not depends on the person because USCIS must have a reason why such opportunity were given to some sets of people.

Did I say I was rich - I qualify for the waiver, but decided against asking for it - or *I* was judging? I said that *USCIS* is possibly going to judge someone applying for the waiver. If the agent processing your waiver is a Trump supporter, and there are a lot of them, I bet you that they are gonna leave work, go to their families, and talk about "those immigrants that won't even pay the citizenship fee."

In fact I wouldn't even be surprised if, somehow, applying for the waiver caused delays in your application or other negative consequences. So yeah, I think it is appropriate to give the opinion that, based on our current political climate, this waiver should only be used under extreme circumstances and not just because "it is expensive and I'd prefer not saving/paying for it."

This is my opinion, and I am sticking with it. I think it could even help some people on the fence about trying to use the waiver or not. So that's it. I am not gonna keep answering to your posts. I've explained my reasoning. Everyone is free to make their choices. Just remember that every choice we make has consequences.
