I know right? For the Atlanta field office, that is somewhat beyond normal compared to the other timelines here on VJ and If had not pushed my way through ( with help from somebody in there) I would still be stuck here waiting! Glad this saga will be over with shortly!

I hope everyone on here had a great New Year! I can see for some of you lucky folks on here it was tremendous joy to see progress being made on your cases.

I want to ask for help with my situation to some of the more experienced folks on here. My case status has not moved past the biometrics stage. My FPs were taken on 10/16. I will be approaching the 3 month mark past that here in a few days.

Here is what I have done so far. I have called Tier 2 USCIS roughly a month and a half ago. I spoke with an IO who informed me that my case is still in the background check stage. He politely told me that there is nothing to worry about as the case is still within the 5 month processing timeframe for my field office. I did see that another user on here from the same filed office around the same time had progressed to the in-line for interview stage. I have also queried some one other user on where who it turns out also ran in to a similar situation. In his case he waited for almost 7-8 months to progress past the biometrics stage. He also happened to be from the same background and country that USCIS and every other agency finds “questionable”. He informed me that he had initiated case status tickets with USCIS several times, had letters written to on his behalf from his congressional Rep and Senator , and also made infoPass appointments but neither resulted in his case moving forward. It seems that the above actions didn’t do anything other than to inform him of where his case stood and that’s about it. Eventually he had to wait it out. I have also read about the Writ of Mamandus recourse but from what I can gather, it only applies if the action is pending with USCIS as opposed to biometrics check which is essentially pending with some Law Enforcement agency.

I fear I may be stuck in a similar situation. Do any of your have any advice on what recourse I would have? I understand that I am not past the 5 month mark yet, but I would like to be well prepared ahead of time as much as I can. Any information that you can provide to help me push this forward would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance to all those who do respond!

I have also queried some one other user on where who it turns out also ran in to a similar situation. In his case he waited for almost 7-8 months to progress past the biometrics stage. He also happened to be from the same background and country that USCIS and every other agency finds questionable. He informed me that he had initiated case status tickets with USCIS several times, had letters written to on his behalf from his congressional Rep and Senator , and also made infoPass appointments but neither resulted in his case moving forward. It seems that the above actions didnt do anything other than to inform him of where his case stood and thats about it. Eventually he had to wait it out. I have also read about the Writ of Mamandus recourse but from what I can gather, it only applies if the action is pending with USCIS as opposed to biometrics check which is essentially pending with some Law Enforcement agency.

I fear I may be stuck in a similar situation. Do any of your have any advice on what recourse I would have? I understand that I am not past the 5 month mark yet, but I would like to be well prepared ahead of time as much as I can. Any information that you can provide to help me push this forward would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance to all those who do respond!

You seem to be well informed about your case and your options. My only recommendation is for you to wait. You know that it can take 7-8 months, so expect that, but hope for a faster process. When you are outside of the 5 month time frame, you can contact your representatives for help; sometimes a query from a congressman moved things among, but usually only if the case is outside of reasonable processing times. It's unfortunate but there are cases in VJ that have taken 1 or 2 years. I doubt you'll have to wait t long, but don't feel like you're the only one of you end up waiting another 7 or 8 months. In the mean time, calls and Infopasses may keep you informed... Don't waste your time chasing after USCIS but also don't forget about your case. I am in the same shoes as thoko. My case did not move since i provided my fingerprint and I have been in the US for 20 years and I dont even have an unpaid parking ticket. I don't know what background check I am stuck in.

Interview done, got called in @ 7:55am , was done at 8:34am... Interview didn't take up to 15mins. What took the most time was the name change saga and more of rapport building . Told her I'll stick with I had in my passport. Don't know why she kept insisting that I change my name . I declined anyways.

Interview scheduled for 8:00am.

Left the house @7:22am , got there by 7:38am , cleared security ( go in light because you may take off your belt , shoes and any metal) and sat for less than 12mins before I was called.

Took the elevator to her office, (started the name change conversation from the elevator).

Got to her office, swore the oath. Proceeded to the English Question;

What's the Capital of the United States?

Write down on line 2. Washington D.C is the capital of the United States ( asked if she wanted it written in caps or small letter , she says it don't matter ).

What did the declaration of independence do?

How many justices are in the Supreme Court?

If the president or the Vice President can no longer serve who becomes president?

Name one branch or part of government?

We elect a US Senator for how many years?

Can't remember the last question.. I did a good job remembering this 5... Aced all of the questions .. Then it seemed like the ice was broken between me and interviewer . We started talking about my job. What she drove. Asked some other odd quest. I smiled. Then she went back to the name change conversation as if wanting me to really change my name.AGAIN.. Printed out a form for me to sign a name change and I told her I'll rather have it as is.. She went to her supervisor and says the way it appeared on my passport was fine. She left the office 3 times to verify if the name was good. E.g name on bc was James John Madison, name on passport was John James Madison, she wanted me to stick with James John Madison. I indirectly told her Tomatoes, Tomahtoehs, it really don't matter . I still don't want a name change. I don't know why she kept asking me to.

Then she proceeded to the YES and NO Questions... That's one part you really want to pay attention to. She spoke too fast and I had her ask 2 of those questions again. She stamped , signed , have me sign 2 paperwork, Looked at me intensely , I guess she was trying to see if I would be so excited. I remained calm , she says "it looks like everything is good, I am recommending you for approval"... You should get your oath letter in the mail with instructions and questions to fill , don't sign the paperwork until the oath day. It should be in less than 180 days... Go outside and wait for me to take you downstairs... She says.

I know it's the last step, I wouldn't stand 180days. I thought to myself.

Soon as she got out I asked is there anyway I can get the oath any sooner ? She answered, January is full, February is full and then I say March maybe . She says probably, that's how I found out when my oath date may probably be.

All in all a sweet experience. She didn't even ask me for a single document not even status of my current taxes owed. I asked her I bought this big bag of document and you wouldn't even look at One piece? She says I have everything right here, I put the "thanks for wasting my time in gathering paperwork" FACE on and said Thank you. I was led down the elevator, shook her hands even if she didn't see it as been professional , thanked her , left . Drove to an homemade taco restaurant 1.5miles away from the building, grabbed me some Egg a la Mexicano , egg and cheese and Barbacoa tacos to ease the excitement.

Thank God . One final step to go.
