This is the way I was taught too, breaking kids up into small groups is the only way I can think of to keep the teacher from going crazy...

I even do it with my kindergarteners.

Being treated like that in school can cause some serious damage that you'll only see when he grows up.

I say this because I know people that are really close to me that developed disorders that started in school, and struggled to have a normal adult social life.

You should seriously talk to someone about it and report their behavior to the county board.

Good luck to you!! :thumbs::thumbs:

I agree. see I am still a cry baby. :crying:

 what would i do without you guys to make me laugh? :star:

that is what we are good at..

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Aww Faith he is a cutie. I am sorry that the teachers are being a pain. Also look into an IEP for his schooling if you need to later. Good luck and hugs.

Mary, he doesn't rate an IEP because he does not have any learning disabililties. The only IEP he has is for speech.

Okay keep on top of it with the speech. My son has some hearing problems and they had IEPs for him. Have you had your sons hearing checked? If he continues to struggle the reading problems can hinder him with being on par for his grade level. Been down this road and my son finally gotten over this but he was in reading programs and had an aid to read to him for his studies. Just a thougth and good luck.

Hi

I am wondering if you consider getting the book seris 'hooked on phonics' Just a suggestion. I am not a father and I dont know too much about grade school age kids Yet...

You can get him some computer software also that is for teaching reading. I think it is very important for him to get a grasp on readng. He will be much more sucessful in life if he does. I was not a great student and I am not the best reader, I can read but I did have my hurddles ot jump over :)

Just a suggestion and if you dont think it is ok, that is fine :)

Take care

Nick's hearing is fine. His speech is just a developmental lisp and he will likely be dismissed from speech this year. He's made vast improvements in that area. (My older son had speech apraxia and was in speech until 3rd grade so I know how the IEP system works very well. He also had occupational therapy for coordination.) We're working on the reading so much because Nick is like a super math whiz, and we don't want his grades to fall in math because he can't read the problems. He's getting better, with our help. He has no reading disabilities, he's not going to be flunked, he's just a slow reader.

I won't get hooked on phonics. We use a technique that his reading recovery teacher used and that I used while teaching reading. Phonics is great for some kids, but it wouldn't help with Nick's problem.

Thanks! I went in and gave them Nick's leprechaun trap this morning. They were all "oooh that's so neat. what a cool idea" (We went with a Grolsh beer bottle emptied out, put new labels on it that said "Leprechaun rootbeer" and "Property of Nick, do not drink!", put a straw in it with some gum on the bottom of the straw. So when the leprechaun comes up to drink the rootbeer he'll step on the straw, the straw will fall, and the leprechaun will be trapped in the bottle. We also put some of those gold coin candies on it.)
