Setting the table for a more accurate discussion about the ethnic background of Syrians

2011, Syrian population was estimated at roughly 23 million permanent inhabitants, including people with refugee status from Palestine and Iraq and are an overall indigenous Levantine people. While most modern-day Syrians are commonly described as Arabs by virtue of their modern-day language and bonds to Arab culture and history, they are, in fact, largely a blend of the various Semitic-speaking groups indigenous to the region.[1][2][3][4] In 2011, Syria's population was 72-74% Sunni Muslim (59-60% Arabs, 9-11% Kurds and 2-3% Turkmen), other Muslims (including Alawites, Shia and Ismaili) made up 16% of the population, various Christian denominations made up 10-12% and finally, there were a few Jewish communities in Aleppo and Damascus.[5][6] 1,500 people of Greek descent lived in Syria at the time. The majority of them were Syrian citizens.[7] The actual population has reduced by about 5 million since the Syrian Civil War started in 2011, with more than 4 million becoming refugees and at least 210,000 being killed.

Apparently the Jewish population of Syria, once quite sizable is now 17. And that has not a lot to do with the current situation.

Welcome to the real world.

Where do you think I live? The matrix?

Everyone lies. All people, regardless of their faith, are hypocrites. It's a part of human nature.

Sure, but some folks are bigger a-holes than others. How about striving to be a better human being, rather than attempting to justify being an A-hole?

How has the worked for the world in your lifetime? Not too well in mine. And looking back in history, not well at all in most places.

The alternative has worked out even worse.

I have made my feelings known how I feel about Saudis and ISIS in the past, but being as the OP is not claiming that Muslims are above such hatred, I see no reason to justify turning refugees back, fleeing the war in Syria. A war, the west by the way has had no small part in helping to create.

But the thing is not all those people are refugees. Lots of people are using the opportunity to immigrate where they wouldn't be able to immigrate any other way. There's NO control who's coming over.

Which is why the asylum systems have processes for filtering those claiming asylum.

Does it always work? No. Is it perfect? Far from it. Does it justify not offering asylum to people fleeing war torn nations? No it does not.

This is mass migration, the vast majority are heading for benefit land.
