Tom Brady Deflate-Gate: Federal Judge Throws Out NFL Star's Suspension

Tom Brady is free!

I very rarely call for anyone to lose their job, but this is one case where I believe Roger Goodell deserves to be fired for the circus he caused in "Deflate Gate".

A federal judge on Thursday threw out Tom Brady's four-game suspension in Deflate-Gate.

Judge Richard Berman of Manhattan federal court announced the decision after the league and the players union, representing the star quarterback, failed to reach a settlement of their bitter dispute.

The league suspended Brady after concluding that he and two New England Patriots equipment managers conspired to let air out of footballs before the AFC championship game in January, presumably to make them easier to grip.

Brady has said that nobody employed by the Patriots did anything wrong.

The judge came out strongly in Brady's favor, slamming the NFL for the way it handled the scandal.

This is a big miscalculation on the Commissioner's part. He may not be commissioner for long. Giving a guy only 2 games for knocking out his girlfriend and 4 games for deflating balls.

Not a huge fan of Tom Brady beyond acknowledging that he is likely one of the best quarterbacks of all time, even given the loss in the Super Bowl by my beloved Seahawks, but I think the Judge made the right decision. Deflate Gate was pretty silly and I for one am tired of some of the malarkey from Goodell and the NFL.

What I find incredible is not the behavior...which is not denied by Brady..but that his lawyer is claiming is was not aware that being "generally aware" that cheating on his behalf could be punished by the league. I guess there is no penalty for those actions and so if you can get away with it..that is just the competitive edge.

Great job team!

If you read the entire Wells report, it is impossible for a logical person to come to those conclusions.

It's pretty difficult to prove someone was generally aware of certain actions that you cannot prove ever took place to begin with. The whole thing was house of cards by the NFL and it was inevitable that the house of cards would eventually tumble down. The NFL came to a a conclusion with no proof and invented a story to reach that conclusion as they went along.

Haters gonna hate no matter what.

Don't really care about Brady, or for that matter the NFL, but the rule regarding the inflation of the ball is very poorly written. Tom Brady said he prefers balls on the low end of the tolerance (12.5 psi) and being a possible diva may have overly pressured the equipment staff to make sure they were at that level no matter what. Of course the staff doesn't want to piss off Tommy, so they painstakingly make sure they are right at that level (12.5 psi). Now according to the rules as long as they meet the 12.5 psi requirement they are legal, and if anyone has a modicum of scientific knowledge, they know that if they inflate the balls at room temperature (~70 F) then take them outside for an hour at 45F the pressure will actually drop by approximately 1 psi (PV=nRT). The balls are then checked at halftime and found to be below 12.5 psi and are pumped up to somewhere between 12.5 and 13.5psi. Brady goes on to have an outstanding half regardless.

Now the reason I say the rule is poorly written is that it does not take into account the temperature of the balls when checked. The balls should be stored at the temperature of the playing field and inflated by the referees right before the game to the specification.

Regardless, the NFL Commish looks really bad here and the federal judge gave him a spanking.

Not a hater...labellers gonna label.. But he knew what was going on, knew it was outside of the rules and hid the evidence. Maybe not 4 game suspension material but not sportsman of the year
