Hey guys,

I've been lurking and have seen that you guys are quite knowledgeable and very helpful to everyone so I figured I ask.

I feel a bit stupid, I thought I made a copy of all the original forms/documents I sent in with my I-129F. But.. unfortunately I didn't.

I have the some files saved on my computer though of course. Those aren't a problem (letter of intent, the way we met, & stuff). I am pretty sure the copies I currently have are copies that I made before my most recent edit. (I don't remember exactly cause I started the forms over so many times, and made so many copies that I don't remember exactly.. Doh!)

When I get my NOA2 would they be sending me my original packet? Or would they be forwarding that whole packet to my the Australian Consulate (where my boyfriend will interview). I read the guides and stuff, and from what I got from the guide, was that I'm to send him a copy of the whole application/everything I originally sent. And he just receives a completely different package after the approval that tells him what to do and stuff.

I hope I wasn't too confusing. I'm really nervous now because I realized that I may not have copied the final submitted documents. Eek.

If you guys have any insight or opinions please let me know.

Thanks in advance!!!

They keep what you sent as original application, then on to interviewer. THe extra copy is good for him to review so he can see what information was included,(in case) they ask a question from within that information.

You will NOT receive your file. When the petition is approved then it transits to NVC and then directly to the appropriate Embassy/Consulate.

The suggestion to provide you beneficiary a copy of the petition is mostly CYA in the event there is a question. 99 times out of 100 or maybe 999 times out of 1000 there is not an issue.

When your petition arrives at the embassy your fiance will receive what we refer to as Packet 3. This typicaly includes a checklist of items that need to be completed in order for the interview to be scheduled. Embassy's do things a little different so it is best to determine exactly what the local procedure is for you.

YMMV

hi there

your NOA2 is notification that you are approved....one page for this notification.

we have an aussie thread if you would like to check it out...

the original packet you are talking about i think is your copies you made (is that right) if so you send them to your fiance...if its not then NVC send the paper work you sent in to Sydney Consulate after your approval...

your quite welcome to come in to the ausie thread and meet fellow aussie's/americans that are going through this process too...

good luck

kath

p.s. sent you a pm for the link of th aussie thread ....

Try not to panick - Just put together another packet....You will need to send the original information to your fiance for the interview. You needed to make a copy because you will never get to handle the packet you sent into the USCIS...it gets shipped off to the consulate and they keep it forever. :) Its a good thing you have items on your computer so it will be easy for you.

I doubt you will ever see your petition package again (we didn't). But it's not the end of the world... here are my thoughts on your situation:

I suggest you sit down now, while the memory is still hopefully somewhat fresh, and assemble a duplicate package. Two, actually... one for you and one to send to him. Try to remember your edits if you can, and make a note of any changes that could have been important (ie, if there's a date wrong and you corrected it with your edit). Just do the best you can, and when you're done, let it sit for a day or two and let your subconscious bring up any items you may have forgotten. Then send him one of the duplicate petition packages.

The petition goes from the USCIS service center to the NVC and from there to the Consulate in your fiance's country. Not sure specifically about Australia, but usually the Consulate sends the fiance(e) a set of forms called "packet 3", which contains the visa application(s) and instructions about the medical. I've never heard of a Consulate sending the petition package to the fiance.

Just make sure your fiance has all your personal information correct for his interview.

Best wishes!

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

Just a little procedural housekeeping here (but in no way does it change the essence of anyones answer).

The Consulate does not keep the file forever... the USCIS does

You may not "see" your petition again but you (actually your fiance(e)) will come into possesion of it as that is what is in the brown DO NOT OPEN envelope you receive with the visa that is carried across and given to the CBP officer at the POE.

YMMV

Although its a good idea and wise to copy the entire package, I didn't (I didn't think of it to be honest) and it all worked out ok for me. I had origionals of anything I needed, so just got another copy.
