hi! my 10 yr old son is under a k2 visa. what kind of visa would he need if we cant get him to follow in a year?

You just said it - K2.

Sorry, you mean to say you can't bring him on a K2 just yet and the the K2 will expire after a year. your USC husband can petition him as his stepson using I-130.

You (USC as the step-father) would complete an immigrant visa I-130 petition.

I don't know nor can I approximate the timeline, all I am sure of is K1 is faster. K1 is still faster than CR1/IR1 for spouses of USC. For your your son, your need to apply now for IR2 /CR2 using I-130 form to be filed by your USC husband.

Check timelines of those processing CR1 / IR1, I think this are comparable.

You will only need to apply I-485 adjustment of status to a Permanent resident, I-130 is not required for K1 or K2. It take 3 to 4 months. Please read this link.

I don't think this is accurate -- the child is not in the U.S. and it appears the question is about not getting him to the U.S. on a K2 before a year is up after the K1. If that is accurate, they most certainly must file an I-130. The fastest would be for the step-father to file the I-130 for a CR2, stepchild of a U.S. citizen.
