Enhanced Driver's License V Passport.

Hi there, I am a newbie, of course.

This is my first (of probably many more to come!) question pertaining to the K-1 Fiance(e) Visa process.

I am a Canadian and I intend to marry a USA Citizen in the United States, residing in Buffalo, NY.

I do not own a passport. As me and my future spouse only live an hour apart, we both currently have Enhanced Drivers Licenses, as we drive over the border to see each other (I reside in Ontario).

This was one answer that I was not able to find.

Is it mandatory that I, or my fiance provide a passport when asked for one during the initial process of the K-1 VISA, or would an Enhanced Driver's license suffice?

If anyone could help me out, I would sincerely appreciate it!

Get your passports

get them to stamp the passports a few times to later prove you visit

all Americans are suppose to have a passport even now to go into Canada

i use to just drive across after late nights of studying in college just for breadkfast

or to see Toronto Blue Jays play

but now, passport only

this is a cheap way to prove you meet often compared to some of the other fees you will pay

You will definitely need a passport to apply for a K-1 visa. Your visa will be affixed inside your passport > http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/family/fiance-k-1.html#6

A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the U.S. (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions).

You need a passport. It is mandatory in Montreal.

The USC does not need a passport but the non-USC needs one 100%. The visa is put inside the passport, there is no way around this. This is a requirement no matter what country.

Important to note, though, that the US citizen cannot use the enhanced driver's license as proof of citizenship in the petition. If no passport, will need to submit a birth certificate.

I'd like to thank everyone for the answers and information that you all have provided to me!

I have filled out my passport information and will be filing it tomorrow!

I know that me (I'm Nikki, by the way.) and my future spouse (Jason) have a long journey ahead of us and it's nice to know that there's a place for information and a community that is willing to share their experiences and give advice/information when it is needed.

Jason is hopeless with filling out forms, so I have taken it amongst myself to be pretty much responsible for all of this, haha. I asked him to do a first rough copy of the petition... He accidentally selected that he was both genders.

So yeah, that's what I'm dealing with, but he's certainly worth it!
