Hello,

What if someone lost their original marriage certificate (Nikkahnama) in the process of mailing all the originals overseas to wife to show at the consulate?

What can be provided to the US embassy at the time of interview?

Get a original from the place where your marriage is registered. I never dealt with nikah naama's in Pakistan. But I think NADRA might be able to issue you one. If you are in Karachi, try going to Awami Markaz.

Go get a certified copy from the government office in charge of keeping marriage certificate records.

Contact the Qazi he should have the third copy of your nikkah nama.

lol.. I always wonder where these qazis keep all the tons of nikah namas.. Nikah namoon ka achaar daalta hai kiya?

Plus qazi wala nikah naama tou Urdu mai hoga..

Yeah not sure but hopefully I can pull one from the local Union Council and get it attested and notarized which should be good to show the Consulate. No way possible to really retrieve the originals unless you steal one from the imam.

I think they want the Urdu one original as well.

Do you mean that the NVC do not send the original copies to the embassy ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we all sent our original copies . getting another one and translate it is a night mare here.

Yeah but we don't send originals to NVC. Only copies as stated on their website. I mean there is a chance they might not ask to show the original but again there is a likely chance they will.

There is no chance they won't ask.

They WILL ask for original, and your case WILL go to administrative processing and few months delay if you don't show original.

Ok but in my case the original marriage certificate was lost. The only proper way to get it back is to get one notarized and attested from the Union Council. Will the embassy take that?
