Just had my interview yesterday in Rio de Janeiro and got an approval!

After exactly 11 months of wait from filing our application, the interview part lasted exactly 3 minutes and 40 seconds - I looked at my watch when they called me to the booth and again after I walked away. Just four questions questions: when did we meet, where did we meet, what type of work I do and what type of visa I had before.

Now just have to wait for the passport to get back - the postal service is on strike in Brazil and things are moving slower. There is always something....

I received my interview date (10/5) by calling the NVC last Tuesday evening (9/15) and again on Friday morning (9/18). So far, I have not received the P4 email appointment letter and my file still shows 'At NVC' on the CEAC website. Should I be worried?? OK, I am worried ... but do I have a reason to be worried?? Do I need to call the NVC again??

:clock:

It took approximately a week after my wife's interview was scheduled before we received our P4. I know you'll worry anyway (I certainly did), but it's not abnormal so the interview is still moving closer and you'll get the P4 in time to schedule the medical appointment. Good luck!! You interview is a couple days before ours.

How do you know about your interview date. Did you call them or receive an email. It's just within a day you got the interview set from scan date. Do we need to keep calling NVC. Will it help to get interview quickly. Thanks.

Calling won't help at all to get an appointment. People call to ask if they have an appointment because NVC can often be quite slow to send the appointment letter. People need to know their interview date asap, because they need to schedule their medical. etc. etc.

Hey guys, I went to an IR-1 interview today in Moscow and here is my experience, it might be useful for some.

My interview was scheduled for 8:30 am, but I decided to get there earlier, arrived at 7:50. It is just one line for all types of visa and appointment times. There were already soo many people and everyone tries to cut the line. It took a long time to get in. Don't take any prohibited items like perfume, water, food, charges, usb-drives etc. They won't store those for you, they'll only take your phone. I gave my delivery confirmation to the first window and received a number in my line, then went to the hall 5, gave them a green paper and then had to wait until I was called. The room was tiny and full of people, most didn't have a place to sit. Even though I came way earlier than should have, I somehow ended up almost at the end of all immigrants. They didn't call all numbers in the strict order, so two people that came after me were interviewed first. After an hour of waiting a lady asked me to give her my original documents, she asked for a birth certificate, new police certificate, its translation, marriage certificate, photos and the medical package. She gave me some pamphlets and I went back to waiting. Interviews were so long.... Every person took about 20 minutes. At around 10:30 I was called to an interview room. The consular seemed friendly and asked some basic questions at first, and then he started grilling me about my job! How was it relevant?? My job is very ordinary! He asked me every detail about it and then told me to give him my resume... I had a giant folder full of everything you could possibly think of and a photo album, but a resume is definitely something really unexpected! Of course, I didn't have one! Why would I need it? It is not an employment-based visa! So he told me to send that to him and then they will review the documents again. He was also about to request a police certificate from China, even though I never stayed there for longer than 6 months in a row. It would be impossible to obtain! But in the end he only decided to request a resume...
So, dear applicants, have that on hand just in case. I don't how my case will end, but for now I am in an uncertainty.

I have seen this requested but usually its a job specific. Like you from India and you are a Bio-chemist. But it could also be in your evidence you submitted was there talk of job you do or work and such. I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist and just assume because its Russia and all. Sorry for you delay but hey its an easy one right.

Congratulations though. :goofy:

That is very weird for a CO to ask for a resume. Sorry to hear that. He probably wasn't having the best of mornings.

In my interview today she barely asked me anything. Only required my police certificates and that's it.

I hope it gets sorted out for you soon.

Also you mentioned being in China a few times. That could be a red flag. Remember think USA. Now You are Russian and you go to China they might want to see exactly what does this guy do for a living he can go back and forth.

My husband has his IR-1 interview in Jerusalem on October 8th. My father and myself are his joint financial sponsors. I don't have W-2s but my father does. We sent copies of his W-2s along with the original I-864 to NVC. Will we need to get my father to send his original W-2s for my husband to bring to the interview? Or will the Consulate just accept copies? Same question for his birth certificate. It's hard to bring originals when they don't belong to you!

Also, is anyone with an interview after October 6th bringing the new I-864 form with them to the interview? I'm wondering if they will ask for it (we submitted the previous version just around the time they issued the new form in July). We already submitted the old form in July, I'm not sure if the new form was out yet at that point so I'm a little worried they may say we should have submitted the new form. Just to be on the safe side we'll have it, but wondering what other folks out there are doing.

My wife had her interview in Stockholm this morning! Approved!!

Finally, after more than 3 years of processing and waiting since we got married, we are now able to live together! (We started in the F2A category, but changed to IR1 when I got naturalized this June).

We are SOOO happy right now!!!

Thank you to VJ and all members that have helped us through this journey. We have gotten so much help and support from this community.

My wife will write a review of her interview experience later, but she said it was pretty smooth and no unexpected questions.

On the topic of resumes, the embassy did not request any documentation related to her education or work, and during her interview she was only asked what she is currently working with, and what she is planning to do when she gets to the US.

Congratulations. Now you can both breathe a little. :goofy:

Okay, so it looks like putting together a resume is a good idea, in addition to all the other hoopla. Good grief! I know someone who came to the USA (K1) with only a grade school education and no job history, so you just never know what a consulate will find to be important.

Dwheels76, that was a clever observation.

:reading: I read to much and watch too much news. And I remember a few people from various countries here on VJ, India and Canada I remember well they were asked for resumes. But both of them had PHD's and were in Bio-Chemical kind of work. So well that's the embassy doing a deeper check.
