Question about Affidavit of Support

Hi! So, some background info, I am filing a K1 visa for fiancee who lives in Canada. We are filing it on October 1st but I am just looking ahead to the affidavit of support as I have some concerns.

I graduated from college in May 2014. After that, I babysat and nannied until May of this year, all under the table (I know I know, don't yell at me please), as I couldn't find a job in my field (education) and the pay was good and near home so I could live at home with my parents. At that time I was planning to move to Canada so it didn't seem like a big deal.

Well, things changed and we decided in April of this year that it would be much better for her to move here. I worked really hard to find a job in my field and was very lucky to be hired in July to be an elementary school teacher (first day of school starts in two days! :content: ). So, now I have an actual taxed job, making enough (I assume - my salary is 34k) to support her without a cosponsor. I have my own apartment as well, so it SEEMS as if everything worked out.

My question is, do I have to be worried about working under the table the past year? I think I have to show my bank statements from the last year and am worried they will question how that money got in there? Do I have to show my taxes from last year or just my W-2 from this employer? What if things move very fast and she schedules an interview before my W-2 is filed for this job? Although I doubt that will happen, but still. Will it look suspicious that I have only been working at a "real" job for less than a year by the time the interview comes, etc.? I worked so hard to get a job in my field and my own apartment and I don't want my past to screw everything up. Side note, we are a same sex couple so my fiancee is already nervous they will be tougher on us because of that fact.

Any advice or clarification would be very appreciated. I hope this makes sense lol. Thank you :)

As long as your current income is enough, that's good, for Affidavit of Support purposes. You should show pay stubs and employer letter (if possible) to prove your current income. You should not have to show bank statements.

If by "working under the table" you mean you didn't report it as self-employment income on your taxes or something, that's your own past tax issue and is not really related to your fiance's immigration. A tax forum would be better for advising you whether or how you were supposed to report it on your taxes.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I just wanted to know if the working under the table/not reporting on my taxes was going to affect the visa/immigration process. :)
