I am about to marry a girl who is an Indian citizen. We got together when I was visiting India a few years back. She is currently in Canada in Tourist visa. I would like to know if she is eligible for a spousal visa if I marry her in Canada? I heard from a Canadian immigration lawyer named Max Berger, http://www.maxberger.ca/ that spousal visa law is stricter now and things can get complicated. Is it complicated enough so that I should get a lawyer to make the proceedings or Can we deal with it ourselves? I don’t want to mess things up and would like to know if anyone has some clear advice on it.

This is a diy site so by far the majority have done it themselves.

I presume Canada allows people to marry without a special visa, she would then return to India whilst you file for her, interview in India and then immigrate to the US.

Rules have not significantly changed in a very long time so sounds like the lawyer is bullshitting you.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
