Documents Necessary for "Evidence of Domicile" - Packet 4

Hi all!

I looked around all over the place for an answer to this question but all I could find was answers pertaining to couples where both did not live in the USA at the time.

Currently I'm preparing for my interview which has a confirmed date (September 14th, woo!). I'm double-checking everything and wanted to ensure that I knew exactly what documents were necessary as "Evidence of Petitioners Domicile in the United States".

My fiancee (The petitioner) has:

- A house in the town I am moving to that she rents, from her father

- She receives bills and letters at this address but does not have a formal lease

- Her W2's have been mailed to her at this address and I have copies of them with the address on it.

Ultimately, if I bring with me to the interview letters / bills with the address on it and her W2's with the address on it, will that be good enough or should I also have my fiancee and her father put together some kind of lease that has their signatures on it?

Bills is a hit or miss, the important bills are electric bills or water/gas bills.

You can also have her use car registration, car insurance, any school registration from children, utility bills, lease, voters registration etc.

Personally, I'm sending as proof: Car registration, car insurance, copy of Driver's Liscense, daughters current school registration.


For K1 in Montreal they are a little bit more lenient meaning you don't need as much proof, less so for spousal visas, but anything you can manage, go ahead and get it. I don't think there's just one specific thing, I would imagine a lease would be the best thing, but overall people tend to bring multiple things as proof versus just one or two things.

We just signed on a new car (yay!) so there's a lot of mail that's come to the house about it, I'm sure that + insurance papers with her address + electric & gas bills will do the trick.

Yeah if you have electric bills those are GREAT. But it does sound like ya'll have enough, especially if you just got a car. I'd say send some copies of those mails showing where they go. =]
